Just beautiful! Thanks for the link! I love the resonance of the canvas you can see at the underside of the top wing. Gives you an idea how it must feel in the cockpit.

... Yes, this would be great in RoF if it could be done. It would make the flying and plane more dynamic!

Great stuff WF2!

The Dutch Air Force also has another D.VII (No. 266), which mounts a BMW IIIa engine.

Why do these always remind me of John Deeres?

Interesting - is it possible to get high quality of these for sound samples?

Hi VikS,

Here is the link to the Aerodrome Forum where the video is. You can e-mail Makhpiyaluta from the post, just click on his name, then e-mail. I am sure he would be happy to help you with the sound recording.

You may have to resister on the Aerodrome forum if you have not already.

Cheers!

Viks, if you need help, I'm from the Netherlands and could contact the guys in Lelystad (that's where the aircraft are). Since most ppl in the Netherlands speak english quite well you shouldn't have problems though...

They also have a running La Rhone rotary engine by the way...

Looks like he forgot to enable autostart and warmed-up engine biggrin

Agreed that the original audio would be good though - Youtube compresses sound to buggery and beyond.

Notice the wind modelling, too. The clouds are moving in the background.

Yes it's real you can tell it's not a moon landing thing because the clouds are moving. Or are they?

Does anyone know what kind of starter is being used in the video? I wasn't aware that any of the WW1 planes had an on board starter. I doubt there are any aftermarket starters for a 1918 engine, so I'm guessing it's original.

Right before it starts you can hear a starter sound winding up, you have to listen carefully. Sounds like it winds up before engaging.

I thought it might have been an inertia type starter, by the way he keeps cranking on something in the cockpit, however later when he tries to throttle up and the engine coughs, he cranks on whatever that is some more. So I think what he is doing is pressurizing the fuel tank.

Is this a replica? Would be nice to see some spec's of climb rate of this plane smile Any way of contacting the owner?

I don't know if the plane is a replica or not, but the engine is apparently an original.
