Reinstalled Shogun and Fall of the Samurai, possibly the best of the Total War series. Playing with the TROM 3 mod installed I started off with the US Marines leading a night-time assault on a coastal fortress.

The natives provide an artillery bombardment

BOOM!

Keep calm and carry on

Marines begin the advance under covering fire provided by gatlings

The Japanese Uesegi return fire with matchlock and bow

Quickly trying to form a line before they counterattack

Too late! Despite our firepower and technological superiority we are embarrassingly forced from the walls.

It was a costly defeat but we'll be back, the castle will fall!

A tiiinnny bit disappointed though. Was I the only one expecting an LCAC beach assult against a bunch of Samurai?

Haha, I wish there was a modern day mod, could be a lot of fun. Wonder how much a mechanised battalion could take on? Sort of like the Anglo-Zulu war only with Strykers!

Cavalry charge!

I find it interesting that Shogun 2 has much better facial animations than Rome II despite individuals supposedly being a much bigger focus in Rome.
