You can control all the tanks, IFV's and APC's? If yes, looks like a nice addition.

Re: 20 new DCS: Combined Arms screenshots - 05/31/12 09:32 PM

And DCS is making it. Dreams are fine, but this is DCS and that means as close to guaranteed as you can get in the game business. Wow, I kind of knew to expect something like this from previous announcements, but I'm still blown away. To realize that I can fly my beloved Black Shark in this without compromising its realism is almost too good to be true.

Re: 20 new DCS: Combined Arms screenshots - 06/01/12 12:48 PM

WOW! It might be a bit early to ask this, but how does controlling a tank work online for example can a player join a server and control just 1 tank slot or is it only the commander on the battlefield that can control vehicles?

Re: 20 new DCS: Combined Arms screenshots - 06/02/12 01:21 PM

Can someone please provide a link to the official anouncement and a features list? If they plan a release for this month, I hope they will have a detailed feature list, at least that's what I expect for a game that be released in 3-4 weeks. Thanks.

Anyone else a little wierded out by the wide FoV in the gunsights (compared to the JTAC view which has a limited FOV while in the scope)?

Re: 20 new DCS: Combined Arms screenshots - 06/03/12 11:34 PM

I mentioned that here-

http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3583707/3/DCS_Combined_Arms_my_opinion.html

They're not going to get their hands much on classified information about most vehicle fire control systems, however, I think they should render them like the eyepiece of a telescopic sight rather than a television screen.

If they can get the info on fire control and sights for steel beasts pe I cant see why it cant be implemented here.

With a few exceptions, generally, since their primary market are professional military organizations, they obtain that information from their licensing agreements, not from third parties, not from enthusiastic users; there are a few cases where the information is public anyway- such as the T-72M1, you can find enough documentation on the Internet to deduce a reasonably accurate solution because it was widely exported and is for all practical purposes not classified. Other sources are esoteric enough, although not classified, are not easy to find- and there are always educated guesses involved to fill in the blanks. On many forums they regularly challenge their customers to provide better data if any of them believe they have a better source than what is represented in their software, which is usually enough to silence the most persistent trolls.

But if DCS is going to go that route, keep in mind, even if they could obtain that information there are a lot of man hours involved in the implementation of a fire control system and the behavior of computer controlled units- they'll have to decide whether they really want to create a detailed armor simulation that could stand on its own as such, or if they are creating something that approximates the tactics of modern ground warfare to provide interaction with its primary subject matter- aircraft and air defense systems, just like how Armed Assault is primarily an infantry simulator with aircraft and ground vehicles added as a sort of foil; in other words, decide where their talents and knowledge is better concentrated- trying to have it all is rather ambitious, it may be better to focus on what they do really well rather, but we'll see.
