I'm interested in picking this up but how does this play on modern hardware and joysticks, also how does it cope with resolutions?

I couldn't stand this game. :p

I tried to like it, but the cutscenes were terrible!

What are you talking about joe? The cutscenes were awesome! Oh, lookee here, this version on GoG is the special DVD High Res version which is _really_ rare.

Haha. funny. Because I just spent a day last week porting my standard 6 CD Version of 4 to the ultra high res DVD Version pack that came out out a few weeks back. The neat thing is with my port--my HOTAS--stick/throttle/pedals is instantly recognized and setup. The high res adds a TON to the game, too.

You DO Have to kill your task manager though when playing IV because otherwise it garbles the graphics... that is unless GoG fixed it.

Oh, and read more about Wing Commander IV here:

I loved WC 4, the extra added bonus was that Ginger Lynn was in it. There are some advantages in being old.

She was in WC3, not 4. I forget if there were any females of note in 4 at all.

Only $6! I will have to grab a copy of WC4. 6GB size? Wow, how did they manage to put that on disks back in 1995!
I played the Wing Commander Prophecy. It was fun with good cutscenes and lots of turn and burn action!

edit...ah, It looks like there are a lot of game extras with the download that increased the file size.
