it happened to me.

I see posts occasionally of people saying their gaming rig is down. Well after just over 5 years my Alienware has somewhat given up the ghost.

I have 3 sets of memory sticks and not one of them works. Computer keeps freezing up anywhere from 5 minutes up to 30.
Two vehicles i need to keep running right now and don't really want to flood more money into memory sticks.

My only backup is a POS Toshiba laptop that can't play any games.

...and i just got GTA V too and can't play it because computer won't stay on long enough to download game.

Such is life i guess. matrix mycomputer

Sounds like it could be heat. You cleaned out the dust bunnies and scrubbed the cpu and gfx fins and fans?

That is a good start or might be a bad hard drive sector

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
Last few days have been fixing a bad HDD! We had a lightning strike close by and since then the PC HD controller has been acting up, my DVD drive and Bluray writer are both fried and one of the HDDs is reporting it is failing, I tried cloning it to an identical 2TB HDD but it wouldn't start so after a CHKDSK on Thursday I have now got the cloning software to run, it started at 08:00 yesterday and it is reporting it is 93% finished just now.

I'm thankful that the day before I took a full backup of the HDD on to my file server - must have had a premonition!

Ok so i observe comments made and decide to put Win7 Pro on empty hard drive and try again. Oh and made two BIOS tweaks.

Weird but works

Glad you got your problems resolved Stormtrooper, I was going to suggest you run memtest86 on those mem sticks to confirm if there was a bad stick or something else.

Yup, you would be surprised how a bad HD can make everything else look suspect. When in doubt, always check the components w/ moving parts first.
