If you haven't heard already, the upcoming season(s) of Game of Thrones will have major deviations from the books, will kill off characters still alive in the books, and will also spoil the ending:

Has a final season been finalized for Game of Thrones yet or will HBO keep it on the air as long as the ratings are high?

Last I've heard, they are still planning with 7 seasons. And apparently GRRM won't release "The Winds of Winter" before late 2016, so there is no way he could finish his planned books before 2017.

The link won't work for me so I'm not sure what it says.

I'm not sure what you mean by "spoiling" the ending. The TV wtiters and GRRM have already publically said that there is a strong possibility that the show WILL have a different end than the books. There is also a very good chance that the show will progress and end before GRRM even writes the last book ( given his normal writing speed). He has hinted that the the show and books might deliberately come to differenet endings.

What other hit show does HBO have right now besides GoT? They have a couple of years to find one before GoT is over. biggrin

They've reversed that:

Quote:
Luckily, weve been talking about this with George for a long time, ever since we saw this could happen, and we know where things are heading. And so well eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but were heading towards the same destination. I kind of wish that there were some things we didnt have to spoil, but were kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on...and thats what were going to do

Cool.

I really don't care if the books differ from the show a lttle or a lot. I read the books long before the show came out and was not upset by the differences. I still very much enjoy the show. I will enjoy the books even if the show ends first.

Same held true for LOTR. Read the books decades before the movies. Still enjoyed both.

Same here, it wouldn't bother me one bit if everyone who does in the TV ending lives in the book ending. I don't see a need for them to be the same, or ever similar. It'll actually bring me more enjoyment if the last book is something completely new.

Me too. My biggest concern was HBO pulling the plug on the series like they did with Carnivale, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards for Games of Thrones.

Carnivale never got the massive ratings that GoT does. Carnivale was very much a niche cult show.

Remember, if it hadn't failed, we wouldn't have had BSG, so count your blessings on that. smile
