...that don't suck! My wife is big into horror movies. Not so much blood and gore slasher types, but make you jump or get goose bumps movies. I wasn't that big into them because quite a few just...well...suck. If I watch one anymore it has to make you think and mostly the "BOO!" parts aren't really forcasted very much. Too many times I'll indulge the wife with a horror flick only to laugh most of the way through because it's just that stupid and predictable. So tonight we watched "The Woman In Black". Other than the ending that was kind of dumb, the rest of the movie had some good spooky stuff. Crazy spooky house in the middle of nowhere with a spooky graveyard on the property, only one road in or out that gets covered by the tide twice a day so you're trapped, fog, ghost children, scary wind up toys and horrible looking dolls...lol. I think the thing that gets me most with a decent horror movie is when you catch something away from the action. A shadow, a face...I'll usually yell at my wife "did you see that?!?". Unfortunately I have to sit through a lot of crap before I find a decent horror movie. Tonight's movie wasn't too bad.

Daniel Radcliffe did a fine job in his role but honestly I thought the movie was pretty dull and not scary at all. A lot of that has to do with the fact that horror movies just don't scare me and all of the conventional tricks of horror films have gotten really old and overused.

I like a good horror movie, especially set in a different time period like Woman in Black was. Gives you more to look at. I like Sleepy Hollow for that reason. I see a difference in "horror" and "gore", gore being easy and just disgusting. I don't see myself ever watching Human Centipede, and have only bothered with 1 Saw movie. I also like a degree of humor, like in Zombieland and the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness movies. Along those lines, a recent movie you can stream on Netflix was a hilarious horror spoof--- Tucker & Dale vs. Evil with Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine. Much more of a dark comedy, but a great flick. We started watching American Horror Story last week. The first season is being replayed while building up to the 2nd season, which is going to be a new and unconnected story (just re-using some actors). So far it's very good, about 4 episodes in. The Walking Dead is amazing. I'd just about call it more drama than horror though. I'm curoius about Chernobyl Diaries, but it hasn't come out yet. There's always the SimHQ favorite: Trollhunter.

Is there a difference between horror and gore? The few I've seen were about the same. But the genre in general has never been too interesting to me. Not in movies, nor other media like radio shows or books.

Chernobyl Diaries is rubbish, don't bother with it. What's wrong with Trollhunter, that was a great film.

The first American remake of the ring was great. Scary stuff. I hear that Lovely Molly is a great haunted house film.

The Exorcist?
Saw it at the cinema in '76. Went with my girlfriend. We sat there holding hands cowering in fear.
Saw it many, many years later. No girlfriend to hold hands with this time but it still scared the s**t out of me. I didn't think it sucked.

Is there a difference between horror and gore? I think so. "Gore" is usually referring to slasher films that show an over-abundance of blood and guts whenever people are killed. "Horror" usually refers to films that rely more on suspense and psychology to scare the audience.

I liked "The Others". Not terribly creepy, but it has it's moments ~ definitely psychological rather than 'scary' or 'gory' though.
Interesting how that one had a similar ending to "The Sixth Sense". Hmmm...

I love American Horror Story! I can't wait for the new season.
The Exorcist, The Shining, Amityville Horror (original versions)...still can scare me. The Others was a great mindfk...I absoulutely love movies you don't get until near the very end. Orphan was another good one.

What lies beneath is quite good, especially if you like Michelle Pfieffer (not everyone does though). And Harrison Ford plays a bad guy for once!

There's a very good vampire movie with a twist called Let Me In, or the US remake, Let the Right One In. Really good IMO. I liked Ghost Ship due to the setting, but I don't think it got good ratings. A good setting goes a long way. Chernobyl Diaries is rubbish, don't bother with it. What's wrong with Trollhunter, that was a great film. I liked it (Troll that is). That opinion is clearly not shared much though from that other recent thread. LOL I'll netflix Chernobyl, about every other movie I get in is crap these days anyway.

Interesting how that one had a similar ending to "The Sixth Sense". Hmmm... I remember going to see "The Others" with a friend of mine and as we're walking out of the theatre my friend asked how I liked it. I said, "I see live people." Way too similar, though there were some good moments. I don't remember it being overly scary though. Horror bores me now. Predictable and annoying.
