Decided to hop back into submarines. I've been enjoying Assassins Creed Black Flag and it got me wanting more action on the high seas.
I can't get it to run, though. I installed the 1.4 patch and no go. Someone said it needed to be 1.5 on Windows 8. I installed that. Nothing works. Reinstalled three times. Another forum said it wasn't the game, it was Steam. I have the boxed version. So, I'm out of ideas and hoping someone else may have had the same problem and figured out the answer.

I picked it up on Amazon Digital Download myself- seems to be working so far. Where do you have it installed? I vaguely remember reading something about most older games not playing nice with Win 8 if they're installed in the default Program Files folders. I installed mine in a separate Games folder. Maybe that's the issue?

Hi, Navy. Thanks for the reply. I stopped coming back to the post because I figured I wasn't going to get an answer. I finally got it running. I not only didn't put it into the default folder, I didn't even put it into my C drive. I have an external drive and I installed it onto that. Runs great. Only thing is that I to hook up the external drive to my laptop whenever I want to play it. What did you do? Simply create a file to install it into?

Ever since I first bought a computer with Win7, I've gotten into the habit of creating a separate "Games" folder to install all my sims and other games into that's direct from whatever drive I created it under. For me, putting it in C:\Games was good enough.

Thought about trying to mess around with it in Wine (I'm running a dual boot with Ubuntu for school programs on my laptop), but apparently there are all kinds of issues with things getting wonky in that case.

What did you do to finally get it working?
