Anyone know what state the beta is in?

Looking forward to this but don't want to jump in if it's far from finished or not enjoyable... I probably need to do some googling/youtubing to find out, but figured some of you might be ahead of me on it.

Played something like this back in '89 on an Amiga that was incredibly addictive. Very interested in this, but with MWO going on, I'm not sure I'd spend time on this when the live stuff is going on. I wish this was a tablet game. Going to check out some youtube videos and might go the cheap route just to get in on it later on though.

I have heard some mixed opinions on this one. Sounds like it is definitely still a beta product. There was a recent NoGutsNoGalaxy podcast (the mechs devs and beer one), where they are interviewing one of the guys on the project, so there is some useful info there.

I will likely grab it since the 'entry point' is only $20. I have a soft spot for the tabletop game though, so this is interesting to me. Also, the ability to have multiple games running at once, with different 'wait times' for your oppenent to play their turn. In theory you could play a match over a week, doing a move a day...

Not sure about the whole card collecting component, might be interesting though.

This weekend is double XP weekend in MWO, so I hope to be online a bunch for that, but maybe on Monday I will do the $20 found for MW:T.

Cheers!

MWO is your average shooter game, although in a mech.

MWT is a closer representation of the tabletop, though that's as far as I know since I never got into the closed beta, which has been going on for a good few months now.... at least since last August. With this, it's basically an "open beta with an entry fee," which, at $20, I don't think I would mind paying. I'm signing up for this tonight!

Never been much of a shooter, so I withdrew my Founder's program support (and got my money back) before MWO went live. I hope this will be more up my alley, as I really enjoyed the old MechCommander games.

If you want a real representation of the tabletop, there is always MegaMek which is free the last time I checked!

Yeah I will likely check out MWT via the $20 founder's package but just didn't want to do it if it was still very early...

Thanks for the heads up on MWO double XP weekend, I'm a happy MWO founder who's been too busy to play much lately, but this gives me incentive to make some time this weekend.

I wouldn't call MWO an average shooter game by a long shot. Build quality and playing the role for your chosen mech means everything, as do piloting skills to defend yourself as well as attack. In an average shooter you can simply count on your reflexes and learning the map, but that just gets you killed PDQ in MWO.

Yeah I think MWO is much deeper than any average shooter (even with missing features still), in fact people who like average shooters typically dislike MWO and move on to Hawken.

But that is OT and I'm looking forward to a good modern strategic Battletech game which MWT looks pretty good for, for me MWO and MWT are apples and oranges and hopefully good ones eventually as I am interested in both.

Sorry, I didn't mean "average" as in similar-to-the-rest.... then again, I don't remember what I was trying to say.... moving on!

Is this MP only? Or maybe that's all they've shown so far?

On the podcast, the dev mentioned that you can play matches against the AI, although it sounds like it's really focused on MP though. Nice to have the option against AI for learning though.
