As everyone is worried about the development progress, a few words about that first.
You will see the beta graphics patch very shortly. I know you’ve been waiting for it forever. We’re working on it non-stop, and what can I say, it can only be ready when it’s ready. We’re not working on an externally set schedule, so we can sit down and do things right rather than rushing them out to meet a deadline. I want to apologize to everybody for it taking so long. But I’d rather apologize for this than for releasing things quickly and for it to be of inferior quality.
Now with that out of the way, let’s continue looking at more project for the upcoming sequel. It’s the good old Il-2 we’ve already shown before, but you’ll get a quick glimpse at some progress with the still WIP fall landscape. The colors, trees and grass is precisely what we’re working on this very second, and it’s just as obvious to us as well as you that this version is not yet perfect.
Slightly worried about this bit... "beta graphics patch" ...hmmm im hoping that means the patch is a beta and not the patch is "ONLY" a graphics patch and not anything else*.
Blacksix please... Since there is no patch today, please could you ask Luthier to take 5 mins to answer these very very important questions to the best of his knowledge in the update thread today...
1) Will the patch fix the CTD(MEM leak)
2) What changes in the FM will we see in the patch?
3) What improvements can we expect in the AI?
4) Have the radio commands been worked on and fixed?
5) Has the ground handling been addressed?
6) Distant LoD model visibility fixed for aircraft and ground objects?
7) How close are the server docs and SDK away from release?
8 ) Has Luthier looked again at the issue of COOPs?
9) Will the FPS boost allow FSAA to be addressed and improved?
Thanks very much Blacksix and i hope you can inform Luthier about these important questions.
And got back this from Blacksix...
Once again I asked Ilya, his answer: "Patch information will be released when the patch itself is ready. The BETA version of the patch will be for graphics and performance only."
As for the 100 octane fuel. Ilya discussed this with the programmers, the result is not yet known.
Sorry. I can not do more now.
So i asked....
Blacksix, can you please explain if you can ...
Do you mean the "BETA" will be performance and graphics only...and the "RETAIL" version of this patch will have other improvements as well?
or this "RETAIL" patch will ONLY be performance and graphics and we will have to wait for the next patch for other improvements?
i hope you mean the first.
Blacksix's reply....
I don't know the plans of management. Maybe then there will be a second, expanded beta.
Another update with basically zero information than "we're working on stuff"? Now who'd have thought that...
And the beta patch will not fix radio commands or improve the AI or FMs? Good to know, because that means I don't even have to bother downloading it...
I'm happy that they are apparently still working on CloD but the pace of the development process is surely disappointing. By now I wonder if I'll be able to have an enjoyable offline experience 12 months after I bought the game. Or if I have to wait another year.

I understand completely the frustration of waiting for a game which should be fixed or almost fixed by now. If i had not ventured online this game would not still be on my computer. That being said I had to upgrade to a new build to enjoy what we have which for a good many is not within reach money wise. The Dev's need to understand that we are not all bottomless pits of money or patience.
Critical?.. that's what they get for releasing the game in a shabby unplayable state for many! They have alienated themselves to what were many loyal fans and they have only themselves to blame for god's sake. Their credibility is dropping with every month that passes. A year after the game has been released it still does not deliver what they claimed was to be a Battle of Britain experience.. I do hope they eventualy get the game sorted, but they should expect a backlash this far down the line after release and it's still not a full working game.
It's the collective fault of the community for being so critical that now they give only vague answers and cryptic explanations.
Not sure if i have just missed the sarcasm or are you suggesting that Luthier has better info or even the patch on his desk and hes holding it back to be mean to us?

Good on you that you sit and reload the 1C forum page every two minutes every Friday so you can be the first to re-post here, but really?
Personal vendetta? He asked if the FM, CTD's etc were going to be addressed in a polite manner. Give it a rest Frey. A lot of us offline flyers are waiting for these things to be addressed and it looks like they are not going to be this time around. Since COD runs pretty smooth for me now, this info means I will probably have to wait another 6 months before I can enjoy the game.

Well I'm actually being quasi-serious. No, I don't think he has a ready patch but they won't risk giving any info that might pin down anything concrete just because they will be drawn and quartered in the forums if it doesn't pan out. So they give us something totally removed from what's at hand with the caveat that it's all WIP and subject to change and say as little as possible about what we want to hear about (the patch) because they will undoubtedly be criticized for it. People are asking for a Read-Me which usually precedes release and surmise that if there's a Read-Me that the patch will be forthcoming, I guess. The best thing in that whole thread is what B6 said about the beta, inferring that it will be here soon, everything else is just fluff. I'm patient enough I'm thinking it will be out next Friday....

Like many here I've been trying to understand the mindset of the devs wrt their dealings with the CoD forum communities. I enjoy flying this sim online a great deal; i'm anxious and concernrd over the rate of fixes of current problems, the direction this sim is going, and the obfuscation of communications from the devs re direct and specific questions from the CoD community.
My conclusion: we are like fleas on a large dog. We can argue and discuss amongst ourselves all we want, but the large dog will decide the best direction to its food dish on its own, thank you all very much. And occassionally, the large dog will give a very general scratch to relieve a faintly annoying itch by issuing an update. On the positive side, the dog's success is also our success. We certainly have the option of jumping off the dog (by shelving CoD) and finding another. I honestly think we're fooling ourselves if we think we, as a community, have any influence on what our large dog host thinks is the best course of travel. We can fuss or we can enjoy the ride.....or we can do both. Eventually, though, the dog WILL get to that food dish. Whether it's Purina Dog Chow or Iams Long Life -- we don't know; but some will be happy and others not.
So given we're getting a graphics boost and the rate of progress isn't, um, great - what's the next urgent thing to go fix up? Is it
(1) Radio and squad AI (more like real pilots with you etc)
(2) Enemy AI (FM's impact AI, i.e. no loopy Blennys etc)
(3) Flight Model fixes
I guess I'd pick (1) next? Dunno.
(4) would be a 3rd party BoB campaign using the SDK i.e. more than some missions, but a squad, story and advanced scripting for immersion of SP in the air war. Post SDK and from the community rather than MG though.

Since I fly mostly online, I would be biased towards (3) Flight Model fixes. However, it sounds like there's more to it than just plugging in adjusted numbers for top speed, service ceiling, overboost corrections, etc. -- sounds like the devs are doing a major overhaul on the different physics forces involved.
I'm hoping the graphical performance improvements will allow for at least heavier cloud evels without bring everyone's computers to a standstill. Dynamic weather is probably far off on the horizon. (heh Get it? Weather? Horizon? .......I just kill myself, I really do,,,,, LOL)
Hahaha.. Snapper you always keep us smiling! For me, well, I want that radio and squad commands to the AI sorted.. then I might just enjoy an offline experience at the moment, offline is total pooh!
Well Dang it... Now I dont know if I should get this or not. I was just about to pull the trigger on purchasing this off of steam... Now with all the commentary maybe I should hold off. Any thoughts??? Based on my reading the community seems divided.
Hahaha Snapper, while I find the updates nowadays totally uninteresting posts like yours makes the read worthwile
Edit: Gunterlund, just buy the thing - it's not a cost issue, it's the hours you put into it that could have less frustrating in another simulator such as BMS or ArmA. I can buy eight copies of Dover without a tear as when I cry it's about my "lost" spare time.
