Well after a long time out of the loop I thought I would share my initial impressions of COD/IL2(having just installed/tried both at the same time).I've just upgraded from my trusty old AGP-based system after many a year to something more in touch with modern times and I loaded COD up and took her for a for a spin. My first impression where that this sim is/will be a true classic! the graphics, flight modelling, environments, sounds, user interface and "feel of flight"/physics are IMHO a giant leap forwards from it's mother of birth, IL2...It is clear to see the potential and vast improvements between the two...Dammed jaw-dropping in places and bringing us all closer to experiencing "reality" from our desktops. It really made one feel like you was piloting the real thing more than any other sim I've flow to date.
So to cut a long story short, I think that IL2 in it's current state is a joy to fly and thrives with current PC hardware where as COD is still in it's infancy/teething stages(we've been there with IL2 and every other sims come to think of it right? horses for courses in our game) but COD will be the new king by a long shot as the patches/technology cach up.
So it's with great pleasure that I can get back into IL2 full-tilt and know that COD is there biding it's time to become yet another if not the all-time classic in WW2 flight sim genres. The future looks rosy for us sim freaks indeed.. we are dammed fortunate and hat off to Oleg and team!:)

I can't go back to Il-2 Classic after flying CoD. Why do you want to stay with the old sim if you have a computer that can run CoD? - Plane-set?

I agree, the future does look bright. I've been playing a little MP every night lately, and having a great time doing it. And even though we have some issues like the launcher crash, at least once a night, something happens that makes me say wow, this is incredible. It could be something as simple as the shadows moving thru the cockpit at sunrise (or sunset), or it could be something unique i see about the damage model. There are so many great things in this game, and I've just scratched the surface, that I just can;t imagine it not being epic as it matures.

I agree, the graphics sometimes amaze me too, if the lighting is right its almost photogenic.

Same, IL2 is impossible to play now. COD has ruined me.

Nice Slap smile i was tired of il2 before CloD was released so i was really hanging on it for a ww2 fix, i mean most of us played il2 for longer than the real damn war went so it gets a bit long in the tooth after awhile smile

Heres hoping patches bring her around the bend as i havent even fired it up for over a month or so now.

The original IL2 was the best the new IL2 COD is the best. Let us rejoice and wait for the next patch or next module in sometime soon we all hope. pilot
