I've always thought Vietnam was the perfect era for what I want in a flight sim. Jets, but for the most part you still had to out fly your opponent because the radar missiles sucked and the AIM-9s were not all aspect. I don't like modern jets as much because fighting is more systems management than it is flying, but I still want jets and missiles, evading flying telephone poles (SA-2s), and carrier ops!! You could fly F4s or A6s off carriers or Thuds out of South Vietnam, or Sandies to cover downed pilots. Have fully modeled SAR to pick your az up if you can nurse your bullet/SAM riddled plane to the coast or border. I just think it would be awesome. I never see anyone else post about wanting such a thing so I'm thinking it will never happen.

I looked into it a year or so ago. It looks pretty dated because it obviously is, and I wondered about the flight models. I saw a vid with some intruders launching from a carrier and pulling almost straight up. Does anyone know how good the flight models are?

Don't expect DCS, but the flight modeling is decent. The A-6 may not be as tightly modeled as some of the other aircraft (because it's not flyable by default), but it can be flown with modification (and yes, I'm tooting my own horn here). I also recommend the SF2V Air and Ground Expansion Pack, which also adds AAA that you can walk on.

The average naval aviator, despite the sometimes swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy, and caring. These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Yes. A Mig 21, a Cobra and a Huey. At that glacial pace we'll have a Vietnam map with aircraft to fly by 2055 or so. Do Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam with the add ons and mods.

Sad, but hardly debatable... I still hope there's going to be a"open the floodgates" moment with DCS next year... when suddently lotsa modules are going to hit us square in the wallet.
But I still also hope Kate Upton will move in the next door...

Yes. Yes I would very much like a hardcore Vietnam sim.
Lacking that, I'd accept a mediumcore Vietnam sim, by which I mean a sim like DCS with an "interesting" Vietnam-era jet in it, such as the F-4, A-4, A-6, and so on.
Failing those two, SF2:Vietnam is fun, but ultimately unsatisfying.
To be perfectly honest, I do not expect to see a "Vietnam sim" on the level of DCS in my lifetime. My current hopes are pegged on BMS Falcon. If they can manage to create even a semi-believable F-4, etc. that will be acceptable to me.
