Shortly after I purchased Rising Sun, I got an email from John asking if I was missing canopy ribs from Allied aircraft canopies. I replied that I was. That was about three weeks ago. Haven't seen anything posted about anyone else with the problem or a solution/patch. Anyone have any information of any sort? Am I the lone ranger or do other people suffer from this? Not going to bug YAP about this during the holidays, but sure am curious about the email from John. Happy New Year!

Bob,

Per John this was a problem unique to the Win7 SF2 version. He was/is attempting to duplicate it. I think there were a couple other folks with you on that, but not all, so its a head scratcher.

I'm in the same boat with the missing canopy frames with Win7 SF2. I sent John some pics as well. Last I heard from him its a bug in SF2 that TK is supposed to fix. I saw that there is a SF2 update supposed to come out soon so am hoping that the fix will be in it. I am so chomping at the bit to get started on Rising Sun but the missing frames is just too much of an immersion killer for me. Hope they can get it sorted out soon.

Kevin

I think Mike found it. We will test and send it out tomorrow.

For those with the missing canopy frames on WIN 7, what video card and driver are you using? Lets chime in an help collect data to get this fixed. Also, I wonder if it matters what version of SF2 you are running? I really want to get in the air with the Flying Tigers!

Video Card: ATI HD4870
Driver: Catalyst 10.7

I'm running on the SF2 Version that was advertised when I purchased Rising Sun.

thanks,

Kevin

We have not narrowed it down yet. It does not occur in XP. It does not happen to every Win7 operator. It is not related to the animation, naming the wrong mesh, LOD, transparency enabled, or any particular video card (ATI and nVidia have it and don't have it. It is not really related to Allied aircraft or the particular artist or the version of Max.

I don't have the problem (or would not have shipped it). It seems that people with multiple installations might be more prone to it.

Has anyone knocked their wheels off on the runway at Wake?

FWIW I only have the one installation of SF2 and Rising Sun. I'm also running 64 bit Windows 7 on a quad core CPU.

Is there any chance the version I have would run on XP, I have a dual boot setup? I'd love to get started on this, the canopy rails are just too much of an immersion killer right now.

thanks,

Kevin

If you would like the XP version to play with while we try to get an answer out of TK, we will be happy to send it. It is flawless.

Sure, I'd love to give the XP version a spin. Could it be setup for me to download? I take it will work with the same SF2 version I got for Win7? I'd just have to load SF2 and Rising Sun on my XP partiion right?

thanks very much,

Kevin

What are you running? SF2 on Win7? Then it won't do any good. The XP version should be run on XP.

The trouble with the canopy rail glitch is that we cannot duplicate it. But when I send my own settings, files, etc. to anyone with the problem, they still have the problem. How can that be?

Take the P40 and F4F. Different artists. Different versions of Max. Nothing in common but the animation we use to open the canopy. Kill the animation and you will still have it.

I don't know if the Hurricane has it. It should if the P-40 does. And the Ki-30 should and doesn't.

We thought maybe the video card but both types have the problem and both types don't have the problem.

It seems to happen to people with multiple installations but that makes no sense either.

I'm currently running SF2 on Win7 with Rising Sun for Win7 (which is why I have the problem). However I have a dual boot setup and could boot to the system into Win XP and install SF2 there. If I take the version of SF2 that I have now and install it on my Win XP setup and then install Rising Sun for XP, would that work?

I do understand the frustration, I'm a software analyst in healthcare, in the middle of a major upgrade, involving a change from VMS to Linux. We are having issues in Linux that we did not have in VMS that others don't have in Linux.

Knew I should have bought stock in Tylenol.....

I have dual boot. XP/Vista. I run all my "games" (Flight Sims) under XP. That's what its best at. That's what its for. Vista? You've got to be joking. But of course I'm old and don't like change. I had enough trouble going from 95 to 98 let alone 98 to XP. I have a free offer to upgrade my Vista to Win7. What for? You're lucky you got dual boot ....... run your sims under which even OS they like best.

Ok, I've got SF2 loaded on my XP Drive and my Joystick/Throttle/Rudder configured to run in XP. Sounds like all I need is Rising Sun XP. If you can set me setup up to download that it would be great. For that matter I would even consider purchasing RS XP if you could credit me back. Heck I might even get RS XP (asuming it works with SF2 on XP) without the credit just to get going.

ready to Tora Tora Tora,

Kevin

AT LONG LAST!!!!

Here is the fix for the missing canopy ribs in SF2 on the P-40, F4F and others as I discovered this morning at the same time that TK was telling us the exact same thing.

The problem arose, as I suspected, from multiple installations all over each other. None of us had it so we could not address it. We applied the May 2011 patch, disliked it, uninstalled and reinstalled and, suddenly, one of us had the glass problem.

Uninstall SF2. If you have later versions, to reinstall SF2, those others must be out of the way so you will be asked to uninstall them also. I have SF2V so I had to remove it. THIS DOES NOT EFFECT THE FILES IN YOUR SAVEDGAMES/THIRDWIRE folder at all.

Then go to the Program files > Thirdwire folder and remove the Strike Fighters 2 folder.

Reinstall.

I have not yet added the June 2010 patch so I can experiment while it is no loaded. But the problem was in the old program folders.

Zerocinco,
I did what you posted, it works! But there is a catch, at least it was for me. I reinstalled my original SF2 dated May 08 then patched it to Jun 2010. That didn't work so I erased everything again, reinstalled the original and patched it to Dec 09, now it works. As for me, the problem seem to be the patch version that caused the canopy issues. I test flight all the effected aircrafts, and they all have rails! Now the canopy rails really effect my SA since I don't have any more 'invisible canopy rails', ha ha. Thanks for the update.

As of now I am running the Feb 2010 version of SF2, and not using the June 2010 patch and I still have rails. Graphics maxed in game.

Win7 64bit
AMD Athlon II X4 630
4GB RAM
ATI 5770

Maybe a stupid question.

When I bought SF2 for Win7, my down load file is June 2010. I tried re down loading, but now I get May 2011.
How do I get the Feb 2010 version?

Richie,

If you bought from RS from us, I suggest you email Zerocinco to see if something can be arranged.
