I just got done un boxing my new Thrustmaster T500 and will be comparing it to my current Logitech G27 to try and save some money for those getting involved in our hobby.

This is my current system and have since moved on from a Tri monitor desktop.

I will try to be objective but after a few laps on GT5 I can say already hands down without a single doubt say this wheel is for real. EVERY single subtle change in the road is felt in the wheel and since I have a Buttkicker LFE under the seat between the 2 of them it's like the old school dirt tracking days smile

I must now tho go get mini me at school for she I think is more excited then I was (well at least I let her think)so tonight will bring many happy laps tweaks and the proper set-ups and then we can get down to business and see what it can really do but as I said so far HANDS DOWN it's not even a fair fight.

Have A Great Day

Serious envy here for the chair and desk in second pic. Oh, and for the wheel. I'd love the F1 Rim for the T500 but I really can't justify the cost seeing how rarely I have time to drive, so I remain with my el cheapo 50EUR wheel.

No kidding! Need more info on this desk/pod thingy. I've been shopping around (dreaming) for a while and have never run across this one. Home-made maybe?

I don't think there was ever any question about the T500 being far better, all reviews have pointed that way. As it should, considering the price tag. Short of the "super high end" wheels, it's the big dog on the block.
For the money though, it's still hard to beat the package you get with the G27. It's hard for me to believe you don't get a gated shifter with the T500 for that price tag, but the quality pedals soften that blow some.

I guess the title should have been Is IT Worth the Extra 400.00.

My fault in that and ty for pointing it out. After a 3am drive fest so far I gotta say I'm very pleased with the performance. I have since flipped the pedals and moved the brake pedal to the far left. I'm no John Holmes mind you but the pedals just like the G27's bunched up my junk when I used them both and as a racer I know things like that can put you on your head quick and has in the past several times. Got a bug in my helmet at the starting line one time and by lap 12 was on my ass oh did I mention it was a bee smile KARMA

It was a simple job and getting to the guts like I did with the Logitech pedals you can see the difference between the 2 without even hooking them up and using them. My first few laps were TERRIBLE for the adjustment curve of this wheel is imho somewhat large but once you get a few laps under your belt your are soon pleasured with BLISS for that clunky OMG something broke sound is GONE.

I guess with the Logi's that was my biggest gripe the noises it made. Being a past racer many of you guys know we have grown accustomed to have that racer sense for funny sounds and or feelings. You know what I'm taking about the feeling in the seat of your arse when that damn motor is about to seize. I even found it at times to be distracting but I'm picky as hell so go figure.

I picked my wheel up for 375.00 to my door. The wheel was used but the pedals where still wrapped so for me it was an extra 175.00 more that my G27's so I got lucky and considering I got a buddy who has one of those High end rims in a 30,000 simulator and for me to get the feeling I have for the price is gonna blow his mind for all he wanted was something he could game with for fun but in the end I think we found a replacement and hi rig might soon be for sale for it is that good.

The T500 completely transforms GT5 to the point you might just start over. The idea of feeling the wheel get light in your hand as you go down the cork screw at Laguna Seca was a high point for me. The pedals are OK with a little tweaking I'm sure they will get better but to say they are the same level as the wheel itself would be taking away from the wheel so I guess I need to get some Club Sports down the road or wait for some mods to become available.

When the winner is picked for the Fanatec test I can only hope they raise the bar yet again for us at home racers have suffered with inferior equipment for decades well unless your a millionaire like my buddy and can throw down 30,000 on a Custom simulator but me being poor I gotta hover on the net to get what I want and had I tried the T500 b4 I bought my G27 a few weeks ago I would have saved my self the time and passed for to me the G27 is a nice Toy but the T500 is in fact a Wheel and considering it's 2012 and sequential shifting is everywhere and the future not having a shifter included in the kit doesn't bother me a whole lot and as to why I moved the brake to the far left for comfort and a good feel.

If you drive less that 10,000 miles a year on your rig Raw Kryptonite is correct is saying that the G27 is one fine wheel BUT if you are a racer and do so more than 3 times a week the T500 is huge GAME CHANGER it is that good.

And to prove it try this:

Take a person who is new to our hobby and turn them loose on a track they have seen on tv like Daytona or Laguna and have them use the G27 and run say 10 laps or so. I predict half way through they will look over and say man this #%&*$#'s fun. Now do the same thing with the T500 wheel and I assure you they won't say a damn word for they will be immersed in racing nirvana and when the 10 laps are done will sit there for a few seconds to get their bearing back and that is why the extra 400.00 is worth every red cent.

You guys have seen my setup and will later post more pics but the T500 without a doubt is the best addition to my system this year yes the Buttkicker Lfe is cool but it's an add on toy to where this wheel is simply put a Tool. But oh what a tool it is.

More To Come

Nice setup, alltough at first glance it looked like a drum set from the 90s. biggrin
How big are those monitors? I'm planning a build in the future and are looking into different designs.

Great read, cheers. I wouldn't mind reading on top of this a comparison of the Fanatec CSR (non-elite) to these two, since it is in roughly the same price range as the G27.
