Hi all, ive been away for quite a while due to some illnesses and real life (tm)

I bought ROF as I got frustrated getting all the patches for IL2 46 squared away and I have to say that RoF is alot of fun and I have shot down a grand total of ZERO enemies online.

What settings are normally recommended FPS killers?
IE: In IL2 we knew which ones were CPU and which ones were GPU restricted, Im curious about which ones I can tweak with the following rig

win7 32 bit ( installed the texture crash fix)
4 GB RAM
60GB SSD drive installation
Dual core wolfdale 3.0 ghz
Nvidia 5770 Asus 1gb version

presently i think Im running just medium everything except for textures and the game looks fabulous , any tips/tweaks/tricks would be appreciated

thanks

good to be back!

Dude,

As with any sim, start low and work your way up. Definitely medium on Landscape and do not use Supersampling.

I also assume you mean an NVIDIA 570 not 5770.

Same question as above, my specs:

GTX 560ti 2GB
Win 7 64bit
AMD 965
8GB DDR2

Frame rates seem very similar as when I had my GTX 260 in my PC.

As posted elsewhere in the other thread where you asked...
Quote:

You've got a quad-core 3.4 GHz cpu and a 2 GB gpu and you're on medium settings??? Something isn't right. My system is 6 years old and it runs medium to high.

Turn off all post processing except for rain drops. AF is a killer so try lowest setting. Turn AA down to maybe 2 at first then try 4 later. With these 3 things set low you should be able to max most other graphics settings, and then try to move the fps killers AF and AA up gradually.

If you're still struggling once turning PP, AF, AA down, you must be bottlenecked elsewhere, OR (a long shot) when I first ran RoF for some reason it only ran on 1 core, so make sure affinity is set for running on all 4 cores.

I've never heard of AF being a frame rate killer.

I'd turn off reflections if I were you. Shadows are also fps hungry, but they looks so cool...up to you whether to keep them, use special-medium if you do.

Also, try unticking post-effects all together.

Higher AF setting definitely affect my fps, but perhaps just my system. Everyone's mileage will vary. I have no problem with high shadows.

IMHO 'Rain drops' post effects are a must, and have little impact when turned on given the context in which they only occur, i.e. passing through clouds or their margins.

How does one check affinity in ROF? Is it set up in a config.ini file, as in Il2?

If we are talking process affinity I'm pretty sure RoF is a step ahead of IL2 and deals with this automatically dependant on the number of cores your CPU runs.

Time to upgrade Dude.
This sim runs wide open fairly easily on a machine of a bit higher specs.

I set my GFX to high so my video card usage is 98% and get 30+ all the time at 1920 res with 2x fsaa and 8 x AF with HDR at medium and supersampling off

what a gorgeous game!

Great!
Good to see you here - I remember you from the IL2 heyday.
You'll find that RoF will make you not care how long CloD takes to get dialed in.
In fact, because of RoF I haven't even installed CloD, and I'm fine waiting until it's bigger issues are solved
before I even bother.

Give the SE5a and Fokker DVIII a go, and make sure you get the Bristol.
Oh yeah, and all the other planes too. Hehe...
