After reading the comments on this board, Netwings and other sites I've decided to sit on the fence for the time being about purchasing CFS3. At least it's good to see that a lot of simmers are having fun with the campaign which is the heart of the game. The qualities and performance of the B-25 and the Mosquito will be factors in my decision whether or not to take the plunge and buy CFS3. I'd be very interested in simmers' opinions about these two aircraft. In particular, for the Mosquito, I'd be interested in comparisons with the Mossie in EAW. For example, can the CFS3 Mossie outrun bandits at low altitude as claimed in one review? Well, the bad first, starting with the cockpits. The B25s cockpit is grossly inaccaurate. I would say the same for the Mosquito, but it's a little more believable. The B25 H & J models are missing the pilot gunsights. The makes it impossible to bomb or gun accurately. BTW, the offset bug rears it's head in the forward guns here also. The J & H model may have a bombadiers sight, I didn't check actually; they didn't in real life. The gunner's sights on all the bombers are either square or octogonal, very irritating to me. No matter anyway -the "offset bug" makes it impossible to hit a fighter anyway. Especially on the H; for some reason they forgot to even put a gunsight on the top turret. Incidentally, in RL, the H & J model top turret could be locked forward (like the P61) and controlled by the pilot. On the good side, the flight model seems believable. The exterior models are excellent for all the planes. The H model has the 75mm modelled well, cool as sh!t to hit a target with it & it takes a realistic amount of time to reload. For all the planes, strafing attacks in the snow are excellent, as you can see the snow explode with each individual bullet, all on or around your target. Looks almost like "WW2 in color" footage. The Mossie is as fast as you would expect, easily outrunning all but the fastest fighters. The strafing bombers look really good with all their guns firing. Just to fly these rarely modeled medium attack bombers & the potential fun of the campaign (haven't played it yet) may be worth the price of admission. Or about 30 bucks perhaps.

"The B25 H & J models are missing the pilot gunsights." Did they have pilot gunsights. My big problem with the Mosquito if that the rudder seems way overmodeled. Get on it hard enough, and you can swing the plane sideways in level fight! Another significant probelm is that your wingmen in the Mosquito absolutely refuse to engage enemy aircraft. They treat it as a pure bomber rather than a fighter-bomber.

Fishbed, they had simple iron sights for rudimintary targeting. If I recall, they first field mods of the strafing B25s used old P-40 sights.

Sorry Nimits, the J models did not have bombadiers. The co-pilot took over the bombadier duties on the H & J, except the aiming & release. No Nordans in them. The H & J models were designed with individual low level action in mind. That's why, in most of the incidents featured in the game, a shallow dive delivery is fine -that's the only way strafing bombers could attack with bombs. As a side note, some of the subtype & field mod standard J models had a sort of hybrid hose, part solid w/ guns, part glazed. When a large scale level bombing mission was assigned to the J or H squadron, the lead planes were the traditional models, with a bombadier -for a group type release. Some medium bomber squadrons tried a simple periscope type sight to assist in level bombing, but had poor results. In fact one General of the 8th wanted to completely eliminate the Co-Pilot all together, on medium bombers, citing the British success with their 1 seaters & our A-20 Havoc. That was decided against, however. But, on occasion, in both the Pacific & Europe, the Co-Pilot was somtimes replaced with a Bombadier during short range attack missions (when Pilots were in short supply).
