Hello Everyone,

Spent some time today with the X45 and Bob Church's External rudder drivers and am happy to report that External Rudders will work with Bob Church's External Rudder drivers just as well as they worked with the X36.

The only difference in the installation is that instead of editing the saix36.inf file you need to edit the saix45.inf file and add the ,x36pdls.sys statement per the External Rudder Installation instructions on my web site.

I tested this under both Win98 and WinME with a set of analog Thrustmaster RCS rudder pedals and my X45 and it works great!

Although I don't have a set of CH USB rudder pedals I don't see any reason from what I learned today that they wouldn't work with the X45 just as before with the X36.

For those operating under Windows2000/XP
Bob Church's External Rudder Drivers will not work, however you can still use external rudders in games that will allow you to assign game controller axis from different controllers.

To use external rudders in Windows2000/XP do the following:
  • Connect your analog rudders to any analog joystick and then to your computer.
  • Set this joystick/rudder combination up as a second controller.

Examples of games that allow you to assign the rudder axis from the second controller are:
  • IL2 Sturmovik
  • FS2000/2002
  • Combat Flight Simulator 1 & 2
  • Fly II
  • etc.......

The web site information will be updated soon.

Ok Ron and guys here is the scoope.
On my system which is brand new, Asus A7A266 Ali chipset
Amd XP 1800 with 512 megs of RAM Running win98se OS.
The note pad documantation file is too small to do the editing to the saix45 inf. file
i had to use the Word Pad documintation program and after I found the sys inf file i set it to all documents and edited the x45 ini file as ron has prescribed.
The ch peddles now work and it only took me 4 weeks.... must be a record or something....I have missed that many of my
War Birds squad meets.
I will now tackel the problem with the SGE's
Thanks to Ron or this would never have been posible....All Hail RHunt Big Smile Big Smile

Hi Ron,

did all that as before with X36 however I have two problems:

1. Arrived bnefore although I could get it working. Had to connect both analogue rudders and spare joystick before using R only as without the stick it came up as 'Not Connected' in the winmdows j/stick applet. (Then it worked ok with X36)

2. With X45 I have done the same and it works except that, now, the rudder rocker on the throttle won't control the banded settings I have created but the rudder pedals do. I can't separate the banded settings away from the rudders onto the throttle rocker.

Do you have any ideas?

Regards

Yes, Saitek has made some changes (not sure what though) and the banded option is no longer available on the X45 when using External Rudders.

Sorry

Thanks Ron ( I think

Any idea why I need to keep my spare joystick plugged into the game port along with the rudders to avoid getting 'Not Connected' when only the rudders are plugged in?

Are you using the R-only file or RDDRonly file?

Here's a quote from Bob Church:

Quote:

RDDRONLY is a small Windows joystick driver that reads the Rudder axis on
the game port and returns it as the X and Y axes. This is useful with USB
joysticks that don't support external pedals in games that support the
use of more than Joystick #1 and with the X36PDLS driver that allows the
use of analog pedals with the Saitek X36.

The effect of the driver is basically the same as you would get using the
R-Only function from the JoyRegs files on my website and it's only reason
for being is that Windows ME has apparently broken R-Only. If you're using
Windows 98 First Edition or Second Edition, the R-Only file is the better
choice. For Windows ME, this is the file you need.

You can purchase either the USB or game port CH pedals that choice is up to you.

Look over the Installation Instructions in the External Rudder section of my web site.

I cannot get my CH gameport pedals to function for the x45 rudder rocker even though I have installed the R-only files and calibrated the pedals as joystick #2 without problem. When I start games the rudder rocker is recognized but not the pedals. I have edited the saix45.inf file as described above, adding x36pdls.sys as described. Any ideas? I am using w98 first edition with usb driver updates.

Windows 98 first edition with the USB driver updates is most likely the problem because it's really hard to predict what you end up with - ie. you might get things to work using the setup instructions for WinME using the RDRonly file instead.

Your best bet is to attach your CH pedals to another analog joystick of any kind or possibly using the instructions I have for the WinME setup. Go to my web site and look over all the different options - try each of them until you find something that works.

Ron,
Thanks for the prompt response. I solved my problem and I think the solution is worth noting. In the game controllers calibration screen for the x45 moving the rudder pedals had no effect on the window for x45 rudder motion nor did the pedals work in Il-2. When I entered the Il-2 setup screen both x45 & R-Only were listed. Moving pedals in Il-2 yaw axis screen produced no effect. On a hunch I opened the HOTAS controls screen in Il-2 and clicked on the rudder axis to modify assignment. Upon moving pedals from side to side the right side of the screen then showed ID-2 for rudder control axis. The rudder pedals still produced no movement on the yaw slider setup screen. When I started Il-2 however the pedals functioned properly. My point is that I simply assumed the pedals would function automatically in games once I followed the install procedure for the x36pdls.sys driver. Such is not the case, at least in my setup. Knowing this extra step is necessary can save considerable headache for someone trying to use the Church system for x45 rudder pedal operation. Thanks again for the quick response.

Sorry for delay getting back Ron and thanks for previous info.

Bottom line is that the rocker will operate the banded mode. In the config programme the rudder moves the red bar but in the game the rocker takes over. Funny though, I am sure it didn't the first time I tried but there you go. It seems that Saitek haven't changed that after all.

I still have had no success using Rudder only and R-Only files (incuding .sy2 file per your pages - I went through process meticulously) and still have to have my spare analogue stick connected. It's actually only the throttle that needs to be connected as I verified using a resistor across the input pins. Still, I have given up on that now and the old stick sits plugged in and tucked away at the back

Thanks again for your great support info,

klem

I installed both Dhauzimmer's and Hphazard's
drivers and i'm happy with my X45 in falcon4.
Now I would like to install CH Pro Pedals Gameport in my Win ME but before starting with NukeUsb, rddonly, and x36drv04 I checked in my windows/inf directory but can't find any saix45.inf file also selecting "show all files".
Can I try to go on?

NO - the External rudder drivers will only work with SGE installed and not with Dhauzimmer's Drivers.

However - It might be on Dhauzimmer's list of things to do and if we all ask - pretty please

Who knows!

Yes I would love to see Dhauzimmer add external support to his drivers, thats the only reason I havn't switched over to them yet because I have games that I still play that will not recognize the rudders like il2 and CFS2 does.

Ron have you dabbled with updating your IL2 profile for use with SST 2.9.1.11/12?
