Hi guys,

I know it's been a long time, but contrary to popular belief I haven't dropped off the face of the 'net - just got a job doing software development and a girlfriend and just haven't had the time to get much more work done. I'm still at it, though!

For any of you that are using the 2.0 series of my X36 drivers, a longtime bug preventing shifting profiles from loading has now been corrected. Big thanks to Haphazard for tracking this one down.

The latest version is always available at http://vega.dyndns.org/x36/

Current features include:
-> Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP support!
-> Calibration of all axes using Windows control panel
-> Programmability of all buttons, hats, and sliders
-> Generalized mode switching support - any or all buttons can switch modes
-> Loadable profiles without requiring replugging of the unit

Feedback is of course always welcome - though I haven't the same amount of time to put in as I used to, I'll see what I can come up with..

Hi,

The documentation /is/ complete, but the profile interface wasn't really intended for humans. I'd originally planned to write a script parser, but I just haven't had time. However, there are a couple other talented programmers now working on more user-friendly interfaces. If you're new to my drivers, try using the 1.1b release instead; the profiling interface is somewhat easier to use, but it isn't as powerful and there are a few known bugs.

I'll let you know when a profile generator is released!

Hey, Ron!

Yup, I'm still here, even though I've taken a six month break. A couple people are now working on profile generators and managed to track down a few bugs. Hopefully we should see release versions in the next couple weeks, putting a nice shiny interface on the 2.x series.

I released a 2.0b3 yesterday with a couple more bugfixes - most notably removing the possibility of a BSOD and stuck keys when loading a new profile.

I'm e-mailing you the latest versions of my drivers if you're interested in updating the copy still posted on your web site. There are two 'active' versions now, 1.1b which has the old registry interface and a few known bugs, and now 2.0b3 with the new loadable binary profile interface and is far more bug-free.

Wodzjaa,

You can use whatever hex editor works best for you. I use UltraEdit, because it works on both text and hex files; but it's your call. I will warn you that making profiles for the 2.x driver series is currently a reasonably difficult task - you might find it easier to start with the 1.1b set just to get used to the way commands are scripted.

Hopefully we'll have some 2.x profile generator software available soon though - I know of two people working on seperate projects to do that.

Hope this helps,

Dhauzimmer

Dhauzimmer..

I cannot use the 1.1 version on XP so I will have to learn the hard way
I will check the MB frequently maybe some fellow will turn up with a nice FA 18 profile..!!!

Yeah, I was kinda hoping that when people went to the trouble of hand coding 2.x profiles they'd post them somewhere or e-mail them to me so I can post them on the server with the drivers... it hasn't happened yet though. I was under the impression that most people weren't using the 2.x driver or were just using one of the default profiles I've provided, or ended up using Saitek's drivers because mine were too difficult to program.

Ah well.. I'm hoping to see some real programming software by the end of the week, so..

Dhauz,

I'll be more than happy to keep your drivers updated and available on my site.

I may have changed e-mail addresses since we talked last so send what you have to me at this address: ronht@mindspring.com

Dhauzimmer's Windows 2000/XP X36/X45 drivers are now available on my Utilities page for download.

There are two different versions to choose from.

Enjoy

good to see those drivers there Ron!

It may be nice if you change the link "Dhauzimmers win 2000 drivers" to "Dhauzimmers win2k and XP drivers" and stress in the info that the 2.03 drivers are working in XP... they actually are.

Hi guys,

I'm pleased to announce the first GUI-driven profile generator for my 2.0 series drivers! Check out Smeghead's profile generator at http://x36-programmer.doesntexist.com/

I want to try the driver/UI combo. But I've already installed SD1.7 from Saitek. Do I have to remove it before installing Dhauzimmer's driver?

I don't think so - all you should have to do is 'update driver' over to my drivers.

Ok here's the deal. You can install Dhauzimmer's drivers over the Saitek drivers by using the Driver Update feature, however it doesn't work quite right and you end up with the Saitek X36 Control Panel screen still installed when you check the X36 Properties in the Windows Game Controllers applet. You can still program and load game profiles and all the buttons and axis work correctly, however the #2 rotary axis will not display at all in the Windows calibration screen. The other downside of this is because you have the Saitek Controller calibration screen, you will not have access to the Calibration feature of the standard Windows controller screen that you get when you load Dhauz's drivers.

Here's what I recommend for best results. If you already have the Saiek SD1.7 drivers installed and you want to load Dhauz's X36 drivers do the following:
  • Unplug the X36/X45
  • Run NukeUSB and remove the X36/X45 in the list
  • Plug in the X36/X45 and let the generic Windows HID drivers load.
  • Open the Device Manager and use the Update Driver feature of the HID USB device (second in the list) to Dhauzimmer's X36 drivers.

Now you have a good installation and the calibration feature available in the Windows Controller Properties applet.

If you wish to re-install the Saitek SD1.7 drivers do the following:
  • Unplug the X36/X45
  • Run NukeUSB and remove the X36/X45 in the list
  • Re-run the Saitek SD1.7 driver installer making sure that you don't plug the X36/X45 back in until prompted to do so.

I've run through this several times and it works great either way.

One more note:

Just posted 2.0b3a, same binary as 2.0b3 but with .INF support added for X45s. Identical packet format folks - that means 100% compatiblity!

I see you got a file interface working. Next thing I would suggest is to add a kernel client for a hid devices or another filter driver which would act like a server so that you can extract axis and patch axis data into the X36 for the rudder and other axis. A filter though would be limited to only usb rudders. Should only take a take half a weekend to do if you limit it to only replacing the rudder axis in the next driver. But you become a hid client you will need to expand the profile format to include information on which device and axis's should be used to patch the X36 data. But it can be hard coded to the second hid device at first.

As for as the text scripting you should keep it out of the driver. A seperate source file which would compile text profiles would be for the best. You could even deligate that and the installer to Smeghead since he is working on the first interface.

I would think simulating mouse input would be the next easiest step.

P.S. What does Frobbable mean?
