Dear Saitek users:
We are pleased to announce that driver support for Windows XP will be available for download from http://www.saitek.com and http://www.saitekusa.com on October 24th, in time for the release of Windows XP.

These drivers will allow for proper function of all axes and buttons on Cyborg 3D Gold, X36 USB, X45, P750, and many other products which currently use the SGE software.

We are continuing to work on the new Smart Technology software, so that we will be able to offer the programmability that is available to Windows 95,98, SE, and ME users. It is a priority to finish soon, but only when we are satisfied that it is a solid product.

Saitek's software currently exceeds the abilities of other software to program specialized key functions. XP offers significant challenges to incorporating all these features in a solid, high performance package. We will achieve it, but believe that we should wait, so that this is software which users can be truly satisfied with.

We will keep you informed as we get more information on release of the next phase.

Well it's the 25th, where the hell are they?

One small request PLEASE LET US CALIBRATE THE STUPID JOYSTICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why? Your construction methods on the x36 were CRAP and every one i've owned is always ALWAYS off center and never calibrates properly because of this. It always pulls to the upper left.

Same old story. Sent and e-mail and they said due to server problems the drivers wont be up until Friday. I have to believe that if they cant even upload new drivers to there web site the drivers cant be all that good.

Funny how it's always the server's fault...

BTW, what kind of date format is it on their news page? 10/11/01, 05/15/01, then 19/10/01. ???

No wonder the server isn't working.

Stephenju,
That is the European standard for dates. Americans swap the month and day. Makes doing business a challenge. A better method for the date is 26-OCT-2001 which leaves very little room for misinterpreting.

The drivers are now posted on the UK site, but they are still BETA. Don't know yet if they differ from the BETA drivers that have been there for a while.

Well, I was thinking the same thing at first. But the 3 dates are in different formats.

10/11/01 and 5/17/01 must be in US format. But 19/10/01???

"The programming software will hopefully be available in early/mid 2002."

Hopefully? It's like mid 2002 isn't late enough...

Hmmmm.... by mid- 2002 I will have built a new system, and thereby installed WinXP. But probably also acquired Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS.
Saitek's been good to me, but oh well, life moves on.

Programing support in (maybe) mid-2002!? I am flabbergasted at how Saitek is pissing away any remaining loyalty and goodwill among its customer base. I would not be surprised if they are history a year from now.

I must say i'm officially done with Saitek. Mid 2002 is just BS and a slap to it's few remaining customers.

Definitely too long of a wait.

If the wife will let me do it, I think I'm gonna pre-order a Couger Withing the next week or so.

Is it still looking like January for the Cougar?

OK, Saitek has released XP/2K drivers, but not the programming software. I am pretty sure the program for my USB PCDash2 is retained internally on an eprom. So, if one has both Win 98 and XP available, will the PCDash2 (and similar Saitek peripherals) program installed under 98SE be available if the device is plugged into an XP machine?? In other words, can one use a Win 98 machine to program the device and have it recognized properly under XP??

It is really sad about Saiteks non-existing Win2000/XP support for their gameprofiler software cause I really like the hardware, in my eyes an almost unbeatable price/performance combo. I bought my X36 USB combo in May 2000 cause my old X36 didn't really work on my new PC using PS/2 interface (even with adapters). So I thought "Win2000 = USB" and Saitek announced Win2000 support soon ... and that was 18 months ago ... now I'll have to wait approx. another 9 months at best guess ?!

I believe that switching from Win9x to WinNT technology isn't easy but saying that Win2000 was announced as Business only OS by MS is kinda silly though many manufacturers were hiding behind it when it came to Win2000 support.

I've been playing games on Win2000 beta as early as April 1999 ... ok, I better stop my rant right now.

I dunno what happens first, me being able to afford them new TM HOTAS or Saitek releasing 2000/XP SGE software.

Well, thanks to Saitek's questionable quality control and most of all their policy of ditching customers, I know I'll certainly never buy anything Saitek again.
