I tried to get though your epistle, but quickly tired. Could you encapsulate the purported flaw here in fewer words? Thanks.

edit/btw: It's spelled Neanderthal (although pronounced with a silent 'h').

In short words (though not necessarily sentences ;\) ):

while writing my AH-files I came across a major bug with the Cougar's internal memory:
when a cmopiled file gets close or exceeds around 2/3rds of the available memory,
then your Cougar will immediatly disconnect directly after download -
without any error-message, and with only an un- and re-plug to resurrect it!

I've reported this - reproducable! - bug in January
(along with some further related bugs),
and since then I have typed my fingers wound in order to wake up TM.
In march they started to investigate on this issue,
in April a bug-fixed compiler was ready...
SINCE THEN literally nothing happened:
it's still AWAITING official testing!

I've written an open letter to TM to ask for whatever progress,
and 'to the community' to inform them about this affair:
ONLY with this comiler is it POSSIBLE to download and use LARGE files -
but this compiler has been buried under the old oak tree,
and TM's management is sleeping (as usual) happy ever after...

BTW, just believe me it's spelled Neandertal -
the "h" in "thal" is still used in the Museum's name,
but actually it's old writing and not correct anymore ;\) .

Ah ha, Thanks. Especially given K@OS' very verbose (but appreciated) sets I can understand the concern. His JF/A-18 Cougar set is the most complex I have, followed closely by Jagstang's F-4. Most of the rest I have are well within the memory envelope tho', esp. WWII sets.

btw: glad to hear they standardized on Neandertal. I stand corrected. Although I think the original 'thal' pronunciation was easier.

So much passion over a joystick aka toy. I don't understand why, But Cougar owners really do love them. As a Chpro owner I would just buy another setup. \:\)

He he, I hear ya Jones. It's just that the Cougar hardware feels so right and the programming is so incredibly robust. I've got mine set up to make me coffee before I launch a flight sim. ;\)

Why don't you guys buy Game Commander 2 and put many keyboard commands on that. Get the cougar memory down to manageable proportions instead of going on crusades where alliances and friendships become at risk.? ;\)
BTW - All I want to do is have the Cougar work on re boot without having to "flash Upgrade" each time first!
From one whose profiles have never reached double figures percentage-wise \:D

Well, I have MS' GameVoice and sometimes even use it ;\) (read: can convince it to really work \:D ), but usually 'only' for radio/comms - for this purpose a voice-control is perfect, but I'd never operate my flaps or gear this way...

The point IMHO is more that TM have stated in their manual that the Cougar features xy programmable positions. Now it turns out that if you really should be tempted to use all these positions this simply isn't possible!

There's a bug-fix done, but this bug-fix still awaits official testing - how long does it take 'em to say "go" once the work already has been done  ? I for one am waiting since half a year to be able to download a perfectly valid file! How long would you wanna wait  ? (If you should happen to own a Saitek: please forgive me \:D - I know you're used to wait several years...)

Ulf,
Don't even think of importing that fight over here. \:D

When I was done with the thread you linked us to. I could not believe all the hard feelings was over a gaming toy. Grown men do love their toys. But from an outsider looking in. Both sides needs to have a beer and chill out :p

No need for any fights at all, one should think ;\) ...

Well, I've finished 2 versions ;\) of these files:
one most líkely causing the kitten to drop dead (until TM will release an update),
and one 'castrated' version staying below the 'critical limit'.

What amazes me is that now, suddenly, 'TM is making a great progress' bla bla...

I've always been a TM-fan, though no 'fan-boy' -
however, I might better get used to the fact that the 'TM of old' just ain't 'the TM of Guillemot'
(and it takes much to even get close to Bob Church's support for the SWF22 )...

After denying any delay - let alone inactivity - on TM's side
and insisting on great progress made and many bugs fixed,
and implying - if not directly announcing - an according update to come,
CW-staff have deleted the complete thread.

Interestingly, CW-staff have once again neglected any official character of CW
and stressed the importance of reporting bugs directly to TM.
TM themsoves stated in their official forum
that they consider the Cougar to be out of their, TM's , responsibility,
and that any bugs should therefore directly be reported to CW-staff.

Got it ;\) ? If so: like it \:D ?

ULF,
I agree, only for coms ....
Try Shoot .
I hear it can be a pain to get all components now, since the increase of interest since LockOn was released, but it does work very well, and it's free ;\)
