I recently dissassembled my system (was trying to use some parts, hardrives, cd-roms) to build a new one, but the fan was faulty and it all burned out in about 5 seconds.) Anyway, when I put the old system back together, the power comes on and all the fans and drives start up, but the monitor is not getting a signal and, as far as I can tell, the system does not appear to be botting up. Any ideas as to why this is occuring?

Try reinstalling the video card. Also, make sure the video cable is secure in the montior and system. Unplug it to make sure.

What video card is this btw? I'm assuming an agp card right?

Tried two different cards (a GF4 4600 and a basic GF3), both AGP, and got the same results with both.

No beeps? Nothing? If so...
1st pull all non-essential cards out of the motherboard. Leave only the video card, master HD, CD, and floppy. Make sure the ram chips and video card are seated correctly. If you have more than 1 ram stick, take all but one out. Switch them out 1 by 1 and see if that fixes the problem. Double check your power connections. Make sure they aren't 1 pin off, and also re-check that the jumper settings are correct for the processor.

If it still fails to do anything, re-set the bios (usually a jumper). If it still wont crank, change the CMOS battery. If that fails, try a different power supply. If you still have no luck getting it to fire up, chances are that;

A.) The CPU is dead
B.) The motherboard is dead
c.) All of the above

Yeah it looks like the processor is cooked (literally, the fan must have malfunctioned). MB appears out as well. Anyone know if I should be worred about my RAM and PCI/AGP cards?

AMD or Intel? Gonna guess AMD. Great chips, just make darn sure you have a heat sink on and completely in place before switching these bad boys on. Intels usually just shut down. I believe the newer AMD chips do this now as well?

Sorry to hear you lost it.

Ouch!.. I feel your pain. You're cards should be fine unless some major power spike killed everything, but thats a 0.00000001% chance. A new place I started getting my stuff at is http://www.adamant.com . I use 'em to compare prices, and then I go see what everyone else can do.

Better luck....

Thanks for your advice and condolences. I have gone ahead and bought a new processer and MB, I guess I will see tomorrow or Friday if the RAM and cards work.

Now, would you all like to donate to the "Pay for Nimits's New CPU and Mainboard Fund?" Its tax-deducitble.

Unfortunately, that was is the least of my problems. I actually have two good (and one mediocre) power supply. I just need computers to put them in.
