Yikes! They don't still have that "Don't ask, don't tell" thing that damn Clinton started do they? I'd hate to be stuck on a ship at sea with all those lil' horny SAILORS!

Chunx,

Best of luck on the new tour. Stay in touch...and please drop me an email when you get a chance. I'm always looking for fleet contacts.

I don't want to post my work email here, but if you lost that one, you can email me at home: cjmartin@gmpexpress.net

Be careful out there.

What do you mean Goose didn't? Are you saying Goose died? Oh, thanks, I was meaning to watch "Top Gun" and now it's ruined!!!!!

Just kidding, of course I (we) have seen it.

Anyway, Chunx, I wanted to send out my heartfelt thanks for being here, for giving a new dimension on Naval Aviation, for the insight and expertise you generously have given to us, your willingness to answer questions and teach (you ended alot of my quests for me), and for sharing your knowledge which has always been the authoritative word around here.

I hate to see you go, I've enjoyed talking with you. I once was in the running for the position you had in the Navy (F-14 RIO; would have completed the RAG by 1994 if all went well), so I'm extremely proud to know you because you made it to where I wanted so bad to be--and yet I'm sad to see you go.

I'm really sorry to have you leave us, but am simultaneously proud of you serving our country and our Navy as you have, and for that I really thank you, especially in these troubled times.

Take care out there, be safe, good luck, and show them that Naval Aviators are the best in the world, always! You can drop me a line anytime you feel like it at http://pages.ripco.net/~bones

Chunx,

all the best wishes and take care!

I will miss Your posts that gave great insights into the real world of carrier aviation and also the real world in relation to this sim. Thank You very much! Hope to see posts from You again, sometime.

Here in germany, when someone goes to sea, we wish him that there always maybe a hand's width of water under the keel of the ship he's sailing in!! It's hard to translate but i guess You get the meaning.

So may there always be a hand's width of water under the keel of the ship Your sailing in, Sir!

Chunx !... Isn't it possible a continuous ,good & broad band internet connection(satellite ?) in a carrier for her personnel & maybe a laptop...

All,

Today is my last day here at my current job at China Lake. The desk is cleared out, the hard drive has been purged. The 3 years I spent here in the High Desert of California testing the Navy's newest toys were some of the most exciting and interesting of my Navy career to date. But the time has come for the Bureau of Naval Personnel to move me on to my next tour of duty. A tour that will take me back to sea on an aircraft carrier.

Last week I had a great "final flight" in the squadron, an opposed Self-Escort strike in the FA-18F using ATFLIR and bombs while wading through adversary jets flown by my squadron-mates, both into and out-of the target area. As usual with last flights, it ended with me being hosed down with water by my squadron mates as I stepped down from my Super Hornet's cockpit. I've already started writing an article about that one eventful flight, which I will finish up when I can and fire off to Bubba for publication on the site.

My next tour of duty will be at-sea, on an aircraft carrier, assigned to the Battle Group Commander's (Admiral's) staff as his air operations planner/director. My job entitles me to fly with our air wing, but opportunities for that will be very limited at best. It seems that I've gone from being "Goose" in the movie "Top Gun" to that short, bald guy in the film, sweating out the air war in some dark command center deep in the ship's bowels. This bothers me, because I don't feel that I have become that short, bald guy yet! However, according to the Navy, I have.

Seriously, I'll miss the full-time flying, and I'll miss the mission I got to do here at the 'Lake. But the Navy needs me elsewhere, so off I go.

Rgarding my hobby, the downside of this next tour will be the lack of routine connectivity I will have with all of you here in these forums at SimHQ and Frugalsworld. I'll miss that a lot because sharing my fascination with aviation is a big part of enjoying this hobby, but it just won't be possible to surf the web very much in my next job. So please don't feel abandoned. I'll just be on hiatus for the next few years, and I'll check in when I can.

I'll also most likely miss the release of LOMAC, CFS3 and SFP1 in the coming months. I'll hopefully get some copies of those sent to my home in the States for me to experiment with later next year. That these games are going to hit the shelves while I may be away from home and unable to play them is frustrating, but that's part of the deal when you're in the military.

So, it's been great sharing this hobby of ours with all of you over the past few years. I hope that everyone continues to do the same, and help nuture in your fellow simmers and aviation fans the fun and interest that we all share for aviation, its technology and it's history. Good luck to you all. Be safe and take care.

Chunx out (for now).

Be back soon, read reviews (LOMAC, CFS3, SFP1 \:D ), and be well.

Good luck out there in the fleet, Chunx. I've really enjoyed your articles and posts, both here and at Frugals, and I look forward to reading more of them when you return.

Chunx,

just read about your new assignment. Congradulations on it! Anyword on which fleet you will be with? It does get tough keeping in touch with people as they get reassigned. I recently found out that a few guys I know are going to be over at VFA-122.Best of luck to you, it has been great having you around to set the record straight with cold, true facts from the professional point of view. Try to have as much fun as you can on the boat, not to mention the Admiral's staff. Be sure to drop us all a line here if you ever have the time. See ya later Chunx, been great talking with you and learing from you,
