Is there a way to squech the ATC radio traffic ? I would like to turn off ATCs comms with other flights. They are prone to stepping on more important broadcasts.

With the F18 patch this is possible. Check the patch's readme. There is a line you can add to the INI file that will then allow you to assign the command to a key.

Again check out the patch's readme file as I don't quite remember the details.
