I just reinstalled after 6 months of having it sitting on my shelf.

I was one of those with SF problems(hosed burning software, toshiba DVD would install but not read the copy protection) Saw a thread, found a solution, sad way to finally play something you paid good money for

(BTW) there is a thread at Subsim about the possiblity of R/W drives having their firmware overwritten by --something--. Someone was talking with a Plextor rep about his drive failure and what they found. I flashed my drives(plextor) just in case(there was an update for 1 anyway)

Once in while just to keep up on the keystrokes. Winter's a coming & so will the indoor time & that's when we'll venture more into the action.
Oh by the way, for those with Nvidia cards, the new 81.87 drivers, even though they're betta, work real well in this sim. This is with our 6800GT/256 card but your milage may vary.

Still playing. Just last night I continued on my twenty second mission and sunk 3 small merchant ships on my way to the American east coast. Man, that's a long haul (even with time compression) because you can't go very fast or you'll use up too much fuel (fuel I need for flanking maneuvers). Anyway, I intend to see this campaign all the way through to the end of the war . . . and then I'll start another one.

I must say, even though there are alot of great mods out there I am finding this game to be excellent straight out of the box with the latest patch. \:\)

Count me in! I've also had this game sitting around, unable to play it because of SF issues and my x64 OS. I had to use the 'fix', which I DO NOT like to do. Anyhoo, this is an awesome game. Glad you guys are here.

I found the SH-III fascination rather short lived, whereas IL-2 still retains its grip on me.

Better sounds (so you can hear the DDs on top of you, like in Das Boot), smarter DDs, a better damage and repair model and a few other tweaks would have had me still hooked.

Oh yes. In fact, I'm keeping a logbook now - makes it much more immersive. U-73 is about to sail into 1941 and the pages keep turning...

Me, less frequently just cause the campaign missions last long (esp. as I am in a Type IX career) and I have been busy. Thanks to the modders my interest is still high though. \:D

Good news. Just started using the 81.87 last night and lookin' good with my flight sim's. Haven't played SHIII in awhile, but as others, winter will bring more gaming time and a return to the sea. ;\)

I played non-stop for a long time till I burned out just before 1.4 was released. Then a couple weeks ago I started playing again and it is just as intense as it was in the beginning.

A couple careers ago I survived to see 1941 for the first time ever (patrol started in December '40, but ended Jan 15 1941 with my death so I saw 2 weeks of 1941 hehe).

Couple of annoying bugs (seems like since 1.3 new patches break stuff that wasn't broken before - collision damage comes to mind with 1.4). I hope at some point they are fixed (I guess no more patches, but maybe open source so community can fix the last few bugs?).

Every once in a great while now... I'm actually taking a forced a break from it as I'm trying to ascertain whether an issue I'm having is related to SF or not so I don't want it on my system until I can determine the cause of this annoying problem.

Thanks Teddy, I wasn't aware of those issues as I've not experienced any of those (sound of knocking on wood heard in the background) so far. My issue was that my one of SATA drives would totally disappear from my system some hours after starting a SF game, namely SH3. Whenever I would play a game at night I would wake up the next morning and find that the drive was no longer listed in Windows Explorer. Or if one of my maintenance programs (files being backed up or my monthly Defrag) would run that involved that drive I'd have errors as the drive wasn't seen any more. A reboot would fix this. I'm trying to see if it is the HD itself being on the verge of failing or if in fact it is SF related. So I've purged my system of all SF drivers and am waiting to see if it happens again. So far, after a couple of weeks, it hasn't happened again but that is still not definitive for me. I'm waiting a couple of more weeks and then will reinstall with Sf drivers to see if it starts again. Thanks again for the link though, if any of those issue arise I'll have a better idea of why now.

Make sure that you update to the latest starforce drivers when you re-install SHIII.

Starforce is a piece of crap, wouldn't P!55 on them if they were on fire.

Never stopped. I'm running 1.4b with Harbour Traffic 1.45 and the airpower mod that comes with it. I tend to lurk on subsim.com these days.

I'm still running Joachim Steiner in U49 in 1940, VIIC, his 10th patrol. I'm also on my first patrol in 1942 with Carl Fischer, U806, IXC on his way down to Capetown. He narrowly avoided death when the RAF depthcharged the sh_t out of U806 in the Bay of Biscay. The IXC doesn't half dive slow!

Any mods? I used to have some kind of harbor mod installed that killed my frame rate but I removed it (after returning to port) and now it's just great. The only mod I use is the one that makes the sea floor look nicer. \:\)

I haven't played SHIII in close to 3 months. I was just burnt out and overwhelmed with all the changes by mods and couldn't keep up. Plus other things on a forum I won't name. One day soon I'll get back into it I suppose, but for now I'm busy with other things. No, I still have it installed, it's just on standby for now.

An over full plate takes away the joy of eating. ;\)

Teddy Bar, you, Beeryus and all the other mod makers are still doing great work. Keep at it. ~S!~

To be honest, quite a few months ago it didn't appear that the masses were loving it...although there were still quite a few who did. Maybe patches or add ons helped, but I stopped reading this forum back before then.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have to give her a try.

I've still got my unopened copy sitting on the shelf - eagerly (foolishly?) waiting for a way to install SHIII without the dreaded SF. SHIII was one of the reasons I built a new machine last spring, and I still can't bring myself to spoil it with SF.

Bought it, found out about SF, removed it same day. Extracted the SF spyware from my system, now it's sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

There's work arounds for this spyware, but I have other diversions underway now and I've lost interest. Maybe later, late into the winter.

Any mods? I used to have some kind of harbor mod installed that killed my frame rate but I removed it (after returning to port) and now it's just great. The only mod I use is the one that makes the sea floor look nicer. \:\)
Nope - virgin install. IT seems my nvidia 5900 doesn't like water reflections, and around ports features like the sub pens reflecting in the water
slows things to a crawl.

Sorry to hear that, Skii. I hope you find something in the forums (here or Subsim) concerning Nividia cards and drivers. Good luck.

I'm just getting back into this after a long hiatus. I also picked up Gannon's 'Operation Drumbeat' from my local library. Sometimes I like to set my time compression low (x256 or so) when I'm on tour and read with the warm sound of the deisels in the background. \:\)

Awesome book by the way.

Just finished my Fourth career after U-53 was sunk on her 28th mission, all crew lost. Total tonnage 659,800. She had a good crew.

Let me put it this way :
SHIII is the best Sub Sim bar none

Regarding StarForce , I got NO problem at all . Not a glitch . My PC 's fine and I still burn CD as I want .

Regarding Mods , I am only using the ones(sss) who improves graphics . I intent to use RealU-Boat 1.45 when I 'll start my second career .

It is a Great game , I love it . My best buy since a long time \:\)

Cheers .

Worth a bump. I'm just so happy to see SH3 getting mainstream recognition even though it's a sim (I'm refering to the recent nominations for sim of the year by a popular online publication).

Anyway, I'm still taking to the seas. I just started a fresh campaign . . . this time with RUb 1.45. In fact, I'm having a little sim rebirth and cranking up LOMAC and Forgotten Battles more often. \:\)

*cough* *cough*
I am, not every night, about once a week.

Time compression never over x128 during daylight, takes me several evenings to reach patrol grids, and the only mod is the radar fix which I'll need later.
Still only in july 40' with several patrols logged in my type VIIb.

A beautiful sim, on watch looking out over the grey rolling seas...
Steady as she goes \:D

I have just started to get in to the game again after a couple of month away from it. It really is a great sim, the best game of 2005 in my opinion. Too bad it hasnt come an expansion pack for it, would really have liked that.
