I've noticed during the last two months that the folks who visit SimHQ for SH3 are an awfully nice bunch. This is true on other forums but this forum is less busy. So I'd like to try posting something here which, for various reasons, never seems to work out well when others have tried forming a thread of the same ilk at SubSim. The notion is this: List the mods that you are using, and the reason you like them.

Now, the problems at SubSim have been that people start to argue why one mod is better than other; or, they list the mods they tried but couldn't install/didn't like/conflicted with others, etc. And then there are the posters who berate others because those others aren't yet using a certain mod, aren't they foolish, etc. etc. etc.

So I'l start the next post with my list of mods -- simply the ones I am using currently, have found to be stable and worthwhile as well as enjoyable and enhancing to the experience.

I hope you will list yours, too. Thanks!

(1) "Time compression near land" - changed to 1064x instead of the stock 8x, since I do not visually navigate out of harbor. [text file modification]

(2) "Jace/Nico Campaign fix" - the essential repair of the flaw which has late war convoys not escorted by warships. [four files replaced]

(3) "Pentallion 20%" (not the 20/20 version) - reduces solo-ship traffic by 80%. More necessary at very high levels of realism settings. [one file replaced]

(4) "Change Opportunity Contacts to 100 km" (instead of 300) - again more enjoyable for higher levels of realism, so that you aren't tempted to "Divinely Know" the ID, nationality ,speed and heading of every ship within 15 hrs of sailing time.

(5) "Change Important Contacts to 5000 km" to better reflect BdU tracking and reporting of the most important hunts on the seas.

1) the mod whhose name shan't be spoken. And it's kickass groovy too

2) the smoke mod that got nicknamed 'popcorn smoke'

3) the depth gauge mod

4) the app thingie that allows you to set the crush depths to a more realistic number. The crew still gives me a panicky 'are you mad herr kaleunt, we're crossing kritikal depth!' at about half the number i know it to be at. Bunch of pussies.

6) The mod that replaced the nice clouds with even nicer ones

7) And last but not least, and ironically the first thing I found out and did, was to unbind the enter key. It does nothing instead of firing my costly fish unintentionally.

well i think that's about the extend of it. I think the mod whose name we shall not name has given the game the most dramatic improvement, making the hunting grounds much more alive and bountiful. But then, the other mods are really sweet too \:D

Charlie901, do you have a link for the PinUpGirls? I dled them a while back, and they are nice BTW!

Been trying to find a link for them for a friend of mine, so any help will be appreciated! It would be aweful difficult to send 3 files each 25 MB in size by email, so could really use a link if you still have it!

Thanks!

any of the sound mods that were intro'd by SALE999. You can get them HERE
Make sure you read the whole thread as he kept posting back with new mods.

I also think the variable crush depth mod is a MUST. It enables you to set up the historically correct depth (max reported depth anyway). Additionally you can choose a randomiser that could make your crush depth more or less than you selected. It makes for a very tense situation when trying to evade destroyers at 200 meters! Get that HERE
