I've just installed RB3d with the Hell's Angels mod on a new PC and I'm getting a lot of crashes in the game menus. Specifically, when I complete a mission in campaign mode, I get as far as the debriefing, and the mouse cursor goes away so I can't exit. The only way out is to Ctrl-Alt-Del and lose the mission, so the campaign isn't going anywhere. I also noticed that I can't shut off the music in the game menus. If I check the "mute" box in preferences, the music keeps playing, and when I leave the game and restart, the mute box isn't checked anymore. I think there may be a relationship between the two problems. Anybody have any clue as to how I can shut down that music?

Make sure you have at least DirectX 8.1 installed, go to your start button, then to "run", type in dxdiag, go to the sound button and slide the Sound hardware acceleration slider down a few notches, go to your windows file explorer, then find your Baron.exe file in your C:\Sierra\redbaron3d directory, right click on it, choose properties, then under the compatibility tab make sure compatibility mode is unchecked.

Thanks for the info, Kess. While it was informative, none of those points were the cause of the problem. Turns out that I never noticed the XP Sound On utility had a little check box for "lock prefs". Once unchecked, I was able to stop the shell music.

Unfortunately, that didn't stop the disappearing mouse cursor that ends my game in the debriefing screen. I will start a new thread to see if anyone has had a similar problem.
