I too installed a new card, since the last time I played RB, its a Geforce II MX400 64MB. Before I had a Diamond Monster 3D II Voodoo II 8mb card.

Now when I run RB3d with my new Geforce card, it looks like I'm running in software mode. Even when I select D3D mode, it still looks like software only faster. I can max the detail, and the FPS is super fast, but it does not look as good as glide.

Also, what was the key that had the invisible cockpit? Or was that a glide only feature?

Any ideas on how I can make this look better?

The invisible cockpit is a glide feature, but there is a user made add on for D3D that will let you get rid of everything except for the guages ala IL2. Its at http://www.wings-of-valor.org/ in the files section. There is also a utility for making things look better in DD at http://myweb.tascali.co.uk/brigstock/index.htm

If you still have a voodoo2 PCI card you can use that in your computer with a pass thru cable in order to have glide if your other card is an AGP card.

Unfortunately there isn't a D3D option in RB,what you are selectig is Direct Draw.Direct Draw is what your desktop uses.
This is why it comes out pixelated (software mode)
The above post has some good links for you.The best way for you may be to get hold of a Voodoo2 as a pass through card.Although you could get your DD game looking like this as a last resort
