I was trawling around the SH3 directories and came across some voice files in *\data\sound\speech\1 that I have never heard my officers say.

e.g. Weapons Officer has never informed of the status of a tube, yet there are voice files for tube loaded, tube empty and tube ready. (e.g. WeO_K_Tube_1_loaded.ogg)

Does anyone know why this is? I hear other voice acknowledgements, but it seems there are some I am not getting! Using a Type VIIb in 1940 now in case it is type specific.

Cheers,

I've never gotten one of those messages either in text or voice, would be nice though since I'm constantly checking the status of my tubes.

It seems that "older" SB cards still don't support DX 9.0c and thus have problems with sound unless you turn the acceleration all the way off... I was wondering about the sound too until I read about this today. I'll have to try it when I have free time again to play.

(edited to correct the name and link to the right thread... that will teach me to try posting quickly while "working" \:D )

thanks for that tip - will try that next time I play. when I read that post, I thought it was just about popping sound problems not entire verbal replies missing.

cheers!

ok, meine herren!

I have tried turning down the hardware accel and it resulted in horrible sound stuttering and the grammophone started skipping!!!

let me ask a simple question: Has ANYONE heard the this sub sim say: tube one ready to fire ("Rohr Eins feuerbereit, Herr Kaleuen!")???

cheers

No, and I don't think it's an external issue, because there is no text displayed for tube loading status, nor will you be told if the crew becomes exhausted and stops loading (I also find this incredibly annoying).

A little venting here--hope no one minds. I've had an Audigy card for about three years now--paid over $200 for it--and it's given me nothing but trouble in sims--snap crackle pop, etc.--besides hogging resources. I never wanted to take it out because I paid so much for it--hoping they would sort it out with drivers--which they never did.

Well--today I took it out, because I wasn't hearing all of the officer's voices, etc.

I'm using my onboard (mobo) C-Media sound--and ouila! the voices are heard now--and so snap crackle pop. Should have done this a long time ago! I'll never buy another creative product--

Okay, done venting. I've got to get back on patrol ;\)

ok, gents, time to admit to some foolishness...

of course, the WepO is not gonna say anything IF HE DOESN'T EXIST!

I usually do crew that position because I do my own thing with the torps and so thats why I do hear all the voices. Problem solved, thanks for indulging me.

doh!

I get a lot of missing voices with my Audigy2. Plenty of messages appear but I only hear the voices probably 50% of the time.

I also have an Audigy 2, and I hear the voices fine as long as I'm in 1X time. If I accelerate time the voices drop out -- probably a good thing, otherwise they'd sound like a cheerleader on helium.

I think I'm hearing the voices OK but quite often messages appear in the text at the bottom of the screen. Some of them I've never heard at all.

I think he's saying put an officer in the torpedo room and you'll hear a comment. Regular crew don't have individual voices, the officers do.

Actually, I usually do have an officer in there, but never heard those phrases. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has.

Don't know what X2 means...

So this is not a soundcard issue but rather a positioning issue with Officers?

Your quote times 2, I wanted to know the same thing.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

I really don't know. I usually do have an officer in there but have never heard those particular messages. The 'FIXED!' label may be a bit premature.

I don't see one post here that says they have 'heard' those messages.

OK the fixed bit is that I believe you need to have an officer in the WepO slot in the command room to hear all of the WepO's voice dialog.

Likewise other positions.

I always have 3 officers in the Command room and almost always in the torp room but have never heard those phrases you mentioned in your first post:

-tube loaded
-tube empty
-tube ready

I still don't see one post where someone has heard these messages.

Speaking of Creative line of sound cards. When I had the soundblaster live 5.1 card, they did come out with update drivers every now and again. With the new batch of models that seems to have dried up completely. What's up with them. Even the video card companies are constantly updating their drivers.

Got an Audigy or Extigy? Creative owes you money.

I've heard Santa Cruz sound cards are suppose to be really good. Think it's time to support the competition.

Yup--this also ticked me off (the article you linked to)--wish the general public knew this--I had an audiophile tell me it can't record at 96kz, except by first going analog, then back to digital, thereby losing stuff in the transition.

RE: Santa Cruz

I've heard good things there, too--and also about Terratec's cards.
