Hi all, posted this at subsim but I thought I should post here also.

I could use a bit of help. I got SHIII and I am loving every second. However, I do have one problem that I can't find a solution to: When I raise my periscope, that nice graphic effect that makes the image all blurry when the water rolls off it causes a big drop in frame rates the first time I use it. I mean it drops to about 0.2 fps. It really brings my computer to its knee's. Anybody else notice this? Anybody know a fix or have any advice? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

zx81

Firstly it would help to get some system specs.

You could, in the games options screen, turn down the 'particle' slider and see if that helps? What about closing progs on your taskbar that you don't need -anything to reduce an over-head for the CPU or RAM.

Hi Tracer,

System specs are on my sig, sorry I should have pointed that out:

Athlon 64 3000+, Soltek K8Tpro (VIA), 1024MB RAM, Geforce 6600GT (AGP), SB Audigy 2

Changing particle effects seems to make no diff at all.

I routinely close all programs in the taskbar and also have tried enditall but it doesnt help.

I am stumped......

That's a 'healthy' rig you have, other than graphic drivers or maybe adjusting your AGP Aperture in BIOS? (you have 1gig so try 256mb)other than that i'm pretty much stumped also.

I don't know if there are known probs with the 6600GT and SH3?

I suggest trying this forum and doing a search if you have no success;

Hi Skydoc and Tracer,

Im really sorry to waste your time. Turns out it was the Nvidia bug afterall. I tried turning particle effects off with CNTRL-P and its smooth as butter now. I was sure I didnt help, but I couldnt check for sure before because I was writing from work.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to help me out. I appreciate it.

Cheers,

No, his problem will be not enough time in the day to play and work, let alone sleep, now that he can play. :p \:D
