I do truly hate this game!
I am having flashbacks when leaving port. Those were SAD times leaving my family. Heck I can even smell the salt air and the kelp in the water.
I am also loosing sleep over this simulation. I used to sleep a rock solid 8 hours. Now I find myself waking up and getting out of bed with only 6.5 hours of sleep. This is so I can do my homework and then go sailing.
I found myself today wanting to bring my Navigator up on charges for bumping into a sandbar. Heck I was hoping he would be shot! I think that I may have lost track of reality here!
I wander around work and all I can think of is getting home and sailing into death or glory! I can not focus on my job because I am thinking of the best attack approach.
“Kneels down” GOD PLEASE HELP ME!

I hear you on the being unable to work, I can't wait to get home and get back to the Battle of the Atlantic. The folks have decided to drop into town this weekend as well, so I'll be hanging out with them daydreaming about crashing through the high seas looking for hapless merchants in my Type II with my vanilla crew.
Generally sims are either judged as being realistic or not, this one has that and has atmosphere and cinematics that rivals any of the top tier first person shooters. One of the most amazing games I've ever seen, if not the most.

I have it real bad! Two days ago when I started my first patrol I found myself in a gale. The water was smashing over my conning tower. I grabed my keyboard shelf with both hands. I then screamed at my monitor as the next 20 foot wave hit... IS THIS ALL YOU GOT? IS THIS ALL YOU GOT? BRING IT ON!Oh man.........

That's the sign of a good game, you sit down, play for "10 minutes" look at the clock and it's six hours later? Sadly games like this are few and far between these days.

LOL ... I can already see me answering a phone call on Monday. "Are you nuts, Boss? I'm in the middle of the Atlantic shadowing a convoi. I tell ya - there are at least four large tankers in and I still need 10k tons for the Knight's Cross. Do you honestly expect me to come to work?"

Too be truly honest about this sim.
As I get older I find most games do not hold my interest for very long. Kind of like A.D.D. for gamers.
But this one has already held my interest for hours on end. I feel like I am young again and hooked in a game that has me utterly floored and wanting MORE!

Dasher, I am with you bud! Again I only got 6 hours of sleep because when my eyes opened up I just had to get my fix! Problem is that I decided to edit my other thread No Dumb AI Here with screenshots to add some imershion for the readers. Too make a long story short; I waisted all my morning time getting setup for uploading pages and editing that now I have to leave for work shortly. I will not get my fix until this evening!

Bad Real Bad...
Can't play very much as my wife is away and I am doing all domestics....so I set up a career and let it run in real time on it's own visiting the PC to rotate the men and do watch duties etc....
I was cooking supper - then from the PC room:
" ship spotted " (in German) RUSH to the comp promptly get the men to battle stations (great way of doing it - one click etc) and then proceed to deftly sink a type 34 GERMAN (ahem) destroyer lol.
Damn recognition manual had a printing error - well that's my story...
I thought 80% of 1939 torps were duds - both went off - hell I wish they were duds...lol
But what an excellent sim!

Took an excellently timed shot with the aft torpedo, at a destroyer that was trying to run over me. Tracking perfect,,HAHA,,got you. Then WTF! The torp bounces off the destoyer hull. Must have been too close.
So now I have to surface because of the previous depth charging. Try to man the deck gun ,but no way. Here comes the destroyer trying to ram me. By now I'm frantically looking for the key command which allows me to raise the white flag and hand over the Enigma machine . Can't find it,,, and bang . The destoyer rolls right over me!!

I have a training session and interview tomorrow at 0845. Am I preparing? No, I just spent the last two hours training for and passing my exam in gunnery.
I have been a hardcore flightsim junkie for many years, but this is really, really something.
I cannot wait for my first patrol.

I was up till 3am chasing this merchant. Lost allot of sleep. But it's worth it! But I GOT him in the long run. It is things like this that will have you staying up all night. Wife all over your back to get of off the computer. Then have dreams about being out to sea on a U-Boat!

Just had to get this sim. I can't believe how good this sim looks, runs and sounds. I have 8xS AA and 16x AF on and it still runs smooth. If you don't have Silent Hunter III yet, then go get it NOW. Im all about flight sims but Silent Hunter is so awesome. Also are people patching to 1.1?

I'm at work as I write. I've just finished writing up a patrol log (with a pen and note pad) of my very first patrol last night. I jotted down some times whilst on the patrol but the rest is from memory. I even know who I will award when I get back home tonight and fire up SH3. Well done for spotting that merchant Konrad Schmidt!
In light of the above, I feel qualified to write in this thread. Lord only knows what my boss thought I was doing. Infact, I'm not supposed to be on the 'net at them moment. Gotta go!

I personaly am almost to the point of being very worried. I know now that if I fire up SH3 then I can not leave it for many hours. This is not a good thing when I have Collage and a family!

SHIII has the same sort of "immersion" factor that all the great sims, such as European Air War, Aces of the Deep, Aces over the Pacific, Red Baron II, and Silant Hunter, have had. It is simply excellent.

[/QUOTE] Heh heh. I also have a log book in which I note time and date of departure and any interesting things that may happen. And then I close off patrol notes when I dock back at Wilhelmshaven. (Is it still called that? I think I want to go there on holiday.) First it was Microprose's GrandPrix2, which I played obsessively, putting in miles and miles of setup testing so I could beat my rival (I won 2 successive Championships; I'm too old for racing now, don't have the courage for fast corners), then I got SH2 as eyecandy/salespoint for a graphics card, and played all through a winter dressed in the right garb. Then it was CM4. I knew nothing about football, got stuck into CM, no I watch football and play fantasyleague. But I am glad SH3 is here; I was about to reinstall SH2 when the new one finally hit the stores.
