READ the RULES

Scenario No. 1
It is late 1940 and as you walk down the snow-covered pier to your new command. A lone light illuminates the boat. You stop and take in the view of your new command. Little snow is seen on the decks as it all has been lost underfoot as the men have prepared the boat for departure later today. This will be your first patrol as Captain.

It has been less than 2 weeks since you returned in this boat from a patrol having served as a "Konfirmant". It was a quit patrol with only one opportunity, but the sea state made it impossible to carry through the attack. A frustrating experience.

The morning cold brings you out of your thoughts and you proceed at a brisk pace to where the two men stand guard at the gangplank, you turn to face them. The guard looks up and stands to attention and salutes saying "Good morning Captain and welcome aboard". "Thankyou Herbert" you say, the young sailor smiles and stands up straighter at you remembering his name.

Further up the pier you see a Type VII, looking back at your Type II you remind yourself that a young Captain has to start somewhere.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenario No. 2
It is late 1941 you see the crew finalising preparations for departure as you walk down the final set of stairs to where your boat awaits you in the bunker.

This will be your first patrol as Captain and for many of the crew, their first combat patrol. You have faith in the crew; they had proved themselves a capable team when the boat plummeted out of control when the exhaust valve failed to close and the boat took on water during the boats run up trials at the Ausbildungsgruppe für Front-U-Boote (Training unit for frontier U-boats). That incident had delayed the commissioning of your boat by 5 weeks.

You are heading out into the Atlantic to tackle the same convoy routes that U47, U99 & U100 were lost on just a few short months before. You welcome the opportunity to take the fight back to the old enemy in memory of your fallen comrades.

Your short story of no less than 500 and no more than 3000 words can encompass any part of your patrol. You may for instance decide to narrate a single day, an attack on a merchant ship, your escape from the enemy, or the entire patrol.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So we must write about the first patrol in the Type II????
No Indian Ocean raids, North Atlantic Wolfpacks, etc, just coastal sub warfare in those cans????

Or I´m just wrong?

The second story allows for you to command any of the Type VII Atlantic boats. Or a Type IX Long Range boats if you really really wanted to.

im already getting the game and recognition manual. I dont really care for the USB stick, but what i really AM interested in is access to that uboat.net section.

Now that im tryin to research a bit and see if i can come up with something, i really wish i already had access to the Conning Tower section, lol!

Cheers,
Poi,
Only in English, as I can only read English and the translator software normally does an abysmal job.

Also the community then needs to be able to read it and vote for their choice.

I would recommend that you include footnotes so that people do not have to surf the web just to know that you said "Approach begins"

Well.

Finished the story too. And yes, is about a Type II (maybe a world first!!!)

But I must check some details first.

For example, how many sub-exocets were carried by those subs. :p

Kidding, just gimme a couple of days to correct grammar.

Hi,
Which tense can these be written in?

Do you want us to write

1. "My U-Boat"
2. "Your U-Boat"
3. "The U-Boat"
4. "Captain Blogg's U-Boat"

????

Thanks,

Thanks,
The narative is about you as a Captain on a war patrol within the scenario 1 or 2 setting. So I envisioned more of an "I" feel to the story.

However, I see no problems should you decide to write the story as "It is late 1940 and as Captain Joe Blogg walked down the snow-covered pier to his new command, a lone light illuminates the boat. He stopped and took in the view of of his new command. Little snow is seen on the decks as it all has been lost underfoot as the men have prepared the boat for departure later today. This will be Captain Joe Blogg's first patrol as Captain."

Well I tried my best to type it up, Im not really good at making scenarios but its as close as I could get. If it was a fanfic then I would have made it twice as good as making a scenario.

As the story can depict anypart of the patrol, can we jump straight to that section.....or must we follow on from the introduction

Hello Teddy

Just a few questions, then I'll launch the fish \:\)

1) I am horrified, my story counts for 3303 words.
But this stinky Word is counting each ", each isolated . , or each * as a damn word. Since my characters talk much and because of the punctuation, I believe I am probably under the 3000 words, but it must be quite close.
What can I do? Will my story be accepted anyway?

2) does your deadline apply to Friday 23:59, East Coast time or something like that? (I am French \:\) )

3) Finally, are we supposed to put a footnote for terms such as BdU, which may seem obvious to us, but may seem dark for anyone else? I fear my short story may eventually turn into a dictionnary...

thanks!

AJ

Teddy, my life is a tragedy

I sent you my story, but it appears it is the wrong one (it has a mistake that was corrected in the other one). It is just a matter of changing a word for another and adding a new entry to the glossary.

I just sent the right version to you, but I was obliged to use another mailbox as Hotmail is having some problems with the file attachments.

Can you please tell me here if everything's ok?

Thank you very much - the ID data and other comments are in the first mail sent earlier of course.

One more time, sorry for the inconvenience

Alain-James

I sent you my story, but it appears it is the wrong one (it has a mistake that was corrected in the other one). It is just a matter of changing a word for another and adding a new entry to the glossary.

I just sent the right version to you, but I was obliged to use another mailbox as Hotmail is having some problems with the file attachments.

Can you please tell me here if everything's ok?

Thank you very much - the ID data and other comments are in the first mail sent earlier of course.

One more time, sorry for the inconvenience

Alain-James
I have sent you and e-mail. If you could confirm what should be the obvious it would be appreciated.

BTW, no worries. Great to see so many stories.
