I'm trying to go back through and get my sniper qualification, I'm stuck at 35.

If I miss a target am I better off letting it go and use the next bullet for the next target? Are the targets unlimited or are there only so many to shoot at?

I usually only miss while in the crouch position so when I'm prone even if I hit all 20 it's too late [Linked Image]

Any ideas?

Don't know, except that this is why I trashed AA from my HD. The shooting qual is way too screwed up IMHO. I'm sorry, but I'm not Christopher Reeve. I can CONTROL when I inhale and exhale, and I can hold my breath longer than 3 seconds.
The RIGHT way to model this is when you bring the iron sight up, you should hear yourself inhale, then steady. If after 5 or more seconds you don't fire, THEN you exhale and quickly inhale again...this isn't La Maz!!! If you DO fire, you should exhale instantly on release of the trigger and inhale again. This is breathing, not a heartbeat!! The screwed breathing combined with the targets only staying up for about 5 seconds themselves means you have like a 1-2 second window to hit each target. And of course the far targets pop up more during qual than during practice, where the close ones pop up more. How about you let me practice the way I have to qual???

I spent a good 3 hours trying to get more than 34 hits before I erased this joke.

Yeah, the inhale/exhale seems alittle over done. I can see it being that dramatic if you just got done running and then tried firing but not from a crouching shot at firing practice.

JM, you should really reload it, the online factor can be very addictive. It's a nice break from other sims if you can find a good server with no kids. I'm enjoying alot, been seeing many 1am mornings [Linked Image]

ok, First off Jedimaster you do not squeeze the trigger and fire while holding your breath. At least not in the real world. The correct way is to slowly exhale and squeeze the trigger.

TG, here is how I got 38/40 at the range and then on to sniper school.
Set your mouse Sensitivity to the lowest setting, use the plain dot for your pointing curser for your weapon, Line up your shot before switching to iron sites then go to iron sites real quick before breathing starts squeeze off your round. Aim center of mass, not at head.
Get all your shots in standing position then it's easier to get the prone shots complete. Keep trying and dont give up. I was stuck at 35 for the longest time, but finally broke the barrier and got 38/40. Sniper school is much easier BTW.
I think they make the weapons as realistic and difficult as possible to make you feel like you have achieved something.
Sure in real life it's not that hard for most to get a perfect score on the range, but if AA was like Ghost Recon then everyone would be sniper qualed. Only those patient enough to stick with it and get at least 36/40 get to go to sniper school.
If it was easy everyone would do it. [Linked Image]

BTW- TG, I'm still wanting to hook up with you guys online. Im up to 18 honor points now and loving every minute of it. Will be nice when I finally get to use voice comms. I cant imagine how much better it will be with real voice instead of stopping to chat.

Seawolf nailed it, line up the dot or cross hairs and then go to iron sights and fire. Mouse sens has a bunch to do w/ it. The default is 3.00 and I run mine around 2.xx. You've got 40 rounds, if you miss a shot and its early in the target presentation then by all means take another shot, but no more than 2 at a tgt.

The sniper rifle is WAY over rated in the game. Too many nOOb l33t kids that think they are a sniper. In reality there is not enuf time or space to properly employ the 24 or 82 in the game as it stands. With larger maps and more time, then maybe. What usually happens is the snipers try and take each other out then as many of the OpFor as possible, only to find themselves the only ones left and they missed all the fun. Its great to see your assault sniper camped at assault spawn w/ 4 min to go and he aint movin'. The 24 and 82 have no CQC capabilities and you get no frags, just smoke.

As soon as anyone breaks your lines and gets to the rear of you, the sniper is as good as dead. MP has some good places for the Def. sniper to perch, but any good 203 guy will spam them w/ nades right off the bat.

Go for it, and get qual. Use it in the game and I bet you'll be looking for the 249 or M4A1 Auto soon enuf [Linked Image]

I agree, sniper is way to overrated. And most people that get it end up sucking with it. My squad usually forces me into sniper with M82, and I'll admit I'm pretty decent (my current best is 8 kills with M82 in a single Mpass game) but I usually hate it... I'd much prefer the good 'ol 16. The way gameplay is currently set up just isn't very friendly to the way snipers should realistically operate. Going by the bits I've heard, the new Radio Tower map may be much better in this aspect...

But then also I'd personally like to see much harder advanced marksmanship training (with everybody's current qualification reset).

You want to hook up tonight? I'll be on sometime around 9:30Pm est. I believe we have each other in ICQ already.

If you don't have coms yet that's no biggy but it would help.

Anyone else want to hook up for some MP AA?

Grim, do you have ICQ? My # is 109490070, if you don't have it please DL it and we can hook up there first.

The squad I'm with has a server we can use for RW. I'll post the IP and PW on that for people who want to play. I'm also trying to get a few of them that also play it.

I was out of town for Christmas TG so I'm sorry I missed you guys.
As already stated the sniper is over rated in AA. Basically these kids who think being a sniper is cool misunderstand the whole point to being a sniper. A sniper on the battlefield is essentially a scout. a Forward observer.
What I like to do sense I rarely ever get a hold of a Sniper rifle is take the Sgt position with a set of binoculars and go with the sniper and spot for him. He cant see whats going on around him when looking through that scope so i will be his eyes and help find targets for him. It works quite well if the sniper isn't a bonehead and tries to assault with the rifle. In that case I just standby and wait for him to die (because it will happen) and take the rifle myself. Nice thing about that is i still have my M16 if I get rushed. lol

Well, for me personally I hold my breath because on exhaling I never know if I'm going to have to cough. Allergies and all. [Linked Image] Wouldn't that be great, modeling a coughing body in an FPS!

Frankly, right now I must have a dozen games on my HD. I can go 2-3 weeks without touching a game before I play it again. I can't remember last time I played MOHAAS or JK2 online. Or NOLF2. Haven't touched Flanker 2 or Il-2 in awhile, uninstalled GR recently as I've not been touching it, just got CFS3 and SFP1, been playing some WWIIOL during the re-eval program, want to do some NASCAR 2002 again soon, I'm in the middle of a Romulan campaign in SFC3...

I'm a PC gamer, what can I say? [Linked Image]

Seawolf and Falcon1, we should try to hook up next week. I have the whole week off [Linked Image]

We played from 9:30pm Est to 1am last night in this one map. Bridge 203 server, there was this guy on the assualt team(Veg something)that was deadly with the sniper. It wasn't even funny how many people he took out. Had about 5-6 of us, Grim from these boards and the rest was my squad.

I finally got my honor up to 12 and it was my best night for scoring as well. I like how the 1.5 patch as evened out that map. The Assault squad made it to our area quite often...

It might be cheating but coms makes this so much easier, it allows you to let your team know where you are and if you see any targets coming to the center tower [Linked Image]
