Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band: Oct 10 Thu • 7:30pm Raising Cane’s River Center Arena, Baton Rouge, LA
Alright, I said no more arena concerts and yet I'm going back to an arena...
1. It's local and on a Thursday evening so downtown Baton Rouge should otherwise be dead, and with no chance of LSU football traffic (BR traffic can be a pain, not from too many cars but from too few lanes of road).
2. The BR arena (known as the Centroplex when built in the late-70's) is small compared to newer arenas, so even the upper sections aren't too far from the stage (our tickets are upper section, about mid-ways the floor).
3. The setlist (see below). I know some people prefer to be surprised, but I have to see a setlist before I pay (in this case, $75.00 x2 + fees). Really though, with an 'oldies' act, you pretty much know what to expect or should expect to hear.
There's also a huge nostalgic factor (I'm sure you're not surprised). I had only one first date in my life and it was in this building, seeing Alabama with my wife in 1984. I'm ready to go back inside for a concert and to also enjoy live music again. I haven't been to a concert since Journey/Def Leppard last year, a bit gun shy after non-related (we think) hearing loss in one ear. Ears seem to be good now (under care of audiologist, but mostly corrected themselves over time) and I'll wear my earplugs if I feel it's too loud, but I doubt that'll be the case.
However, we're also seeing the Molly Ringwalds next Friday evening (it's been a looong time) and I'll likely wear my ear plugs to that one.

I'm jazzed. Bob Seger has always been on my list of bands to see if possible, and there's always been a shared love of his music with my wife. In fact, she sent me a heads-up text this morning that tickets were going on sale to the public today.

But the main ones that I want to hear are there, just wish Fire Lake was included:
Who wants to brave those bronze beauties Lying in the sun With their long soft hair falling Flying as they run Oh they smile so shy And they flirt so well And they lay you down so fast Till you look straight up and say Oh Lord Am I really here at last?
Lol.

Probably my favorite Seger songs here. Travelin’ Man/Beautiful Loser should really be the standard by which all live songs are judged, the energy and soul the whole band puts into it is just off the scale.

Last year I took a peek inside of the Arena (free public event) for the first time in over 30 years. It was smaller than I remembered, probably comparing it with Smoothie King Center, Amway Center and Bridgestone Arena. Also, it looked pretty nice inside so they must have done some major remodelling since the mid-80's (after undergoing much repair in the early 80's from destructive AC/DC fans).
Man, I hope the acoustics are good. Last year's Fixx concert at the Manship Theatre (only 325-seats) was the best sounding concert I've ever heard, it sounded that good. I hope they return and in this case, I'll gladly take a seated show if just for the acoustics.

I completed my Bob Seger collection today (Amazon MP3s), was missing only four songs in my CD collection. And I have to admit, a couple of them I didn't know by name although I recognized them upon listening. I've had a couple of listens through the complete setlist and I'm very happy with it, although I would change "Forever Young (Bob Dylan cover)" to "Fire Lake".
BTW, "Forever Young (Bob Dylan cover)" is not the same song as Rod Stewart's popular song, but "Downtown Train (Tom Waits cover)" is.
Yeah, this selection of songs will do just fine.

[Re: MarkG]
The last couple of days I've been having a Rod Stewart and Bob Seger listening marathon and I'm ready to put them both away for a while. I'll go back to Seger as the concert date approaches.
I would have preferred the concert be on Friday vs. Thursday evening (a nostalgic tradition that goes all the way back to high school and college, "Put the textbooks away and lets go out after work."), but then I realized that the Florida Gators are playing in Tiger Stadium on that Saturday (Oct. 12) so I dodged a bullet by one day. Friday evening traffic in the area before gameday can be a real pain, especially for an SEC game. Thursday evening should be fine. Wife was already taking the following week off on vacation and now she'll see about adding the previous Friday, an evening with Bob Seger being a great way to start an 11-day work break.
Oh man, crappy phone sound quality and noisy floor chatter, but you can feel the energy which is what a concert is all about...

My parents also always played Bob Seger. I still remember those days as I was a young kid during the late 70's to the early 80's. They often made big barbecue parties with a lot of friends and Bob Segers music was always a part of this. Really unforgettable!
I still like all this music I'm grown up with.
My alltime favorite live-albums:
- Bob Seger Nine Tonight (1981)
- Hollies Live Hits (1977)
and
- Deep Purple Made In Japan (1972) (my father always played this record )
I also have the Nine Tonight concert CD, along with Night Moves, Against the Wind and a Greatest Hits (lots of duplicates, obviously). Like with Kansas, I was missing those really good early cuts, got them now.
My favorite song on Nine Tonight (can't find that particular live version so I'll go with studio + lyrics for this one)...
There's some sweet fan-made videos for this song as well, possibly not SFW.

Mine were "tryin to live my life without you" and "fire lake".
Yes, there is a lot music available at the web, but the real good things are still hard to get.
Back those days I started collecting music, I had to import some things from the states. There was no way to get it here in Germany. We had a good friend with a record shop and he was able to import most of the things I wanted to have. Sadly he had to close his doors a few years ago, as a result of mp3 and so on.
Funnily enough young people now start to buy records again. My son, who is also a music enthusiast, is collecting records like a crazy one

The sales of vinyl has indeed increased over the past few years but it's still a very small niche segment of the overall music market. Streaming now accounts for over 70% of the total market.

I was in a Walmart yesterday and saw one of the larger LP displays that I've seen to date in a Walmart or Target. If I had the extra money, I'd purchase a few LPs just for the album art and liner/lyrics sleeve with other extras.
...a couple of cool posters that came with the Dark Side of the Moon album (you can still see the fold lines)...

We have something similar here, you could get sometimes real rarities! It's named Rossmann. In their bigger shops they have also a goods shelf for Audio CD's. Here you can sometimes get real good CD's you never thought that a drugstore could have. Especially some older once.
And the best is, nobody cares for it. They are more after things like Lady Gaga or similar "good music"

Lady Gaga? 10 years ago she was a big deal.
