Checking further, now that I am in a place with a decent internet connection, it seems that "La Pallice" is the name of the deep water port for La Rochelle. However, its name does not appear on our road map, hence my inference that there is an error in the name. Moggy- La Pallice was certainly used in "Das Boot", but I suspect that St Nazaire was the main U-boat base. We hope to be heading there next weekend

Nothing like actually walking the ground you’ve read about. Sometimes it is just as you thought, and sometimes it isn’t. Gettysburg is as you would imagine. Antietam is not what I pictured. The ground is more convoluted, rolling, and less defined than I thought. Been there a couple times and still can’t figure out what Lee thought in choosing to stand there.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.
