AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT Faster Than GeForce RTX 2070 at $449, Radeon RX 5700 Faster Than GeForce RTX 2060 For $379 Officially – 7nm RDNA Navi GPUs With GDDR6

the new graphics card features AMD’s next-gen Navi GPU which is based on a 7nm process node and features the RDNA core architecture to replace AMD’s GCN architecture which was launched back in 2011.

According to AMD themselves, the Navi 10 GPU will be 14% faster at the same power and should consume 23% lower power at the same clock speeds as Vega 64 GPU.

[The 50th Anniversary model] would deliver a total Compute power of 10.14 TFLOPs and should be around 5-10% faster than the Radeon RX 5700 XT. This variant will be available for a price of $499 US.

Vega 64 has 4096 stream processors and is virtually the same FPS as 5700XT (according to leaked tests). So, no incentive to buy 5700XT for a Vega 64 owner. I expected that.

Clarification Edit:

Quote
AMD expects the Radeon 5700XT to offer performance approximately 1.14x faster than Vega 64, while drawing 23 percent less power.

TSMC makes AMD CPUs and GPUs. 7nm is not the end of the line. As nodes get smaller, chips get smaller. But, speed increases are slight.

TSMC To Commence 2nm Research In Hsinchu, Taiwan Claims Report

the company is expected to develop 5nm by next year. Now, a report sheds more details on TSMC’s plans for processes beyond 5nm and 3nm.

3nm mass production projected to commence in 2022. At this point, process nodes [sizes] are merely marketing terms as key metrics such as pitch and gate width are similar for designs marketed under different headings.

EXCLUSIVE: AMD Is Working On A Monster 64-Core Threadripper, Landing As Early As Q4 2019

I have confirmation that the company is preparing an absolutely monstrous 64-core/128-thread Threadripper part for launch in Q4 2019.

this is going to be an absolute steal for the retail professional. This processor is also going to be great for homegrown server setups and computing clusters – the applications are practically endless.

EXCLUSIVE: AMD’s Plans For 7nm Ryzen APUs

the expected announcement/launch date roughly in late-November.

[Its] for consumers that are looking for an HTPC build or a casual All-In-One build and want to conserve on the footprint.

Raven Ridge 7nm is going to go up against Tiger Lake parts from Intel which are expected to have a maximum compute of 2 TFLOPs.

Definitely only a rumor. Yet, it seems possible.

Intel has been making very high end (expensive) motherboards. AMD may be going "all in" (expensive) to compete with Intel -- as rumors and leaks suggest.

Custom Radeon RX 5700 cards come in mid-August

It appears that the Radeon RX 5700 series will only be available with reference design when it launches on July 7th as custom versions from usual AMD AIB partners won't be available before mid-August, in best case scenario.

AIB partners need some time to get these custom cards designed and tested, but we are sure there will be plenty of cards to choose from when they come. At launch, you will be able to get a reference one with a sticker from your favorite partner.

The good part of the story is AMD went to great lengths with the design of the [Reference Edition] Radeon RX 5700 XT cooler with new aluminum shroud and backplate, vapor chamber cooling and graphite-based TIM, as well as the PCB with 7-phase VRM.

First real-seeming test of a 7nm Ryzen low end CPU. Competes with Intel high end.

Quote
[Entry Level $199] AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 Core, 12 Thread CPU Tested on X470 Platform – Single-Core Performance On Par With The Core i9-9900K [$488]

Coming to the main performance tests, first of all, the chip was tested in several CPU benchmarks such as Cinebench R15, Cinebench R20, wPrime, and X264 encode. In all of the multi-core tests, the chip out-performed the Core i7-9700K which is an incredible feat considering that the Core i7-9700 (K) is a 95W processor while the Ryzen 5 3600 is a 65W processor. In single core tests, the chip did manage to feature performance on par with the Core i9-9900K which is Intel’s top mainstream chip while the Ryzen 5 3600 is AMD’s most entry-level chip. This alone goes off to show the massive IPC improvements that AMD has achieved with their 7nm Zen 2 core architecture.

"On par" doesn't mean it won everything. Only that one probably would see no difference in practice (just measure a difference). We'll see if other testers agree on and around July 7.

Intel’s Internal “AMD Competitive Profile” Memo Revealed- AMD Competing On Perf/Dollar A Huge Risk For Intel, Acknowledges AMD As Formidable Competition

A Challenging Period Ahead For Intel And A Dominating Position For AMD

AMD’s Success Story According To Intel Themselves:

[From closing paragraph] Intel is very reasonable in their assessment on the threats it faces and how it plans to tackle them in years to come. Just like in the past, Intel has overcome the challenges it faced by offering top-tier products and they have a solid foundation in the form of their six pillars (process, architecture, memory, interconnect, security and software). AMD rose from the ashes to once again become a dominant force in the industry and Intel could do the same if we take a look at their past, that’s the beauty of competition!

Link to very long article covering many points

With release of AMD 7nm products, Intel will have fallen significantly behind in key respects. Recovering leadership will not be easy or soon. Intel is tackling that problem internally with a realistic assessment of the challenge.

As I've noted, the last time AMD got ahead (over a decade ago), Intel cheated by paying key manufacturers "under the table" to not use AMD which nearly put AMD out of business (proved in court). That's one of the reasons I support AMD. Hopefully, the competition will be "above board" this time.

As the article indicates: Competition is good smile

AMD talks Precision Boost Overdrive in Ryzen 3000 series

AMD Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) .. an automatic overclocking feature which raises both voltage and frequency when certain conditions are met, like power and thermals.

AMD has further improved the PBO feature allowing these CPUs to hit higher single-core boost clocks, by up to 200MHz

Getting the most boost is said to require an X570 motherboard. CPUs on sale and reviews giving third party performance numbers on line July 7.

Nvidia's SUPER series came in at a competitive price. Now, prior to launch, it is rumored that AMD 7nm Navi GPUs will have lower prices.

Update, new pricing (two confirmations):

RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary: $449
RX 5700 XT: $399
RX 5700: $349

Rumored that AMD official prices will be available tomorrow. That's combined with 3 months of free gaming noted in post above. Price competition is very good biggrin

FWIW I ordered:

AMD Radeon™ RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary
Xbox Game Pass for PC

Slight (measurable but usually invisible) FPS improvement on my Vega 64 with other "actually visible" improvements to picture quality. And, 7nm for the fun of it.

Not sure which 7nm Ryzen CPU or motherboard to buy, yet. Again, its for the fun of it -- only a couple of my games and applications may be noticeably better (if I go 8 core).

For my CPU and motherboard I went with the Ryzen 7 3800X (8core/16thread) and Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO.

Those and the above AMD Navi GPU provide a nice "middle of the road" 7nm AMD gaming system that improves on my current system. The Navi is supposed to arrive tomorrow -- the CPU and motherboard in 3 to 6 business days.
