I'm definitely interested in this movie, the subject matter particularly so. Let's just hope it doesn't stink.

The acting bothers me more than the CGI

Yeah, the acting looks AWFUL! And over the top CGI as usual. "Based on a true story." Yeah, well, there was a Battle of Midway. That's true. But the SBD's weren't slaughtered after dropping their bombs. As we all know, the Zekes were down low, and the Japanese AA had their guns pointed down at the sea, shooting down all of the torpedo bombers. The Dauntlesses dived unopposed. As far as the guys in the water, "Watching the show." Well, we all know that was TBD pilot Ensign George Gay of Torpedo 8. The squadrons only surviver. Not a Dauntless crew. And the whole, turning the lights on for the returning planes, thing? That happened two years later during the Battle of the Phiilipine Sea. I wouldn't pay a cent for this if it were released in a theater. I'd watch it on you tube because, well....I love airplanes. I'll wait for the release of "Midway" on November.

It was the poor TBD Devastators in the first wave which were well....devastated. The SBD's successfully carried out their attack in the subsequent waves.

It was directed by Roland Emmerich who is basically the German version of Michael Bay so I would advise to keep the expectations low.

And being able to do it without being harrassed by anti-aircraft fire or fighters meant that they could take their time, steady their airplanes, and wait for the perfect moment to drop. Their bombing was excellant with the carriers recieving multiple hits. What a sight that must have been.

Yeah, I know.! I just hope there aren't any scenes with Japanese crews running towards the camera in slow motion as bright orange explosions rise up in the air behind them!

Careful, they may take that as a challenge.

I haven't seen 303 Squadron. But "Hurricane" was agonizingly bad. And "U.S.S Indianapolis: Men of Courage" was so awful that Mario Van Peebles should never be allowed to stand behind a movie camera again.
But I'm hoping Midway doesn't head that way. I'm trying to be optimistic even though so much points against it.

. Every war movie with Nicholas Cage in the lead role has sucked. Does anyone remember "Windtalkers"?

The Cage Indianapolis movie is pretty much disavowed by the USS Indianapolis survivors/ family community. I heard enough about it early on to know not to ever watch it. There is a much better made for TV movie staring Stacy Keach as Captain McVay that is very good.
