As the title suggests if you have an RTX capable video card you can now get a fully RTX version of the classic Quake II
You get the first 3 level shareware version for free but if you have the full game (£3.99 on Steam) you can integrate it with that.

One of my good friends played this last night and he said he was stunned at just how good it looked.

So I would like someone to play through the RTX version, and then the Berserker Quake 2 mod:

And let us know which looks better. Berserker Quake 2 is neat.

FYI there's an option in the Beserker options menu to turn weapons back to normal speed. My initial impression from the videos(because I do not have an RTX card), is that RTX looks good, but Berserker is far more consistent throughout and overall looks better. Berserker also does not require RTX.

Its certainly a blast from the past to play and looks great. I cant remember when the last time I played the original version was.

I've done a little experimenting with some hints from the Steam discussions page and got the addon packs working.
If you want to try its fairly easy.

Copy over the rogue and xatrix folders and also the ground_zero.bat and reckoning.bat files.
open the .bat files in notepad and change where it says .\quake2.exe to .\q2rtx.exe use the .bats to start the addons.

Ground Zero works just fine but Reckoning take an extra step as the first level wont load.
Start Reckoning then open the console with the tilde key, type in "map xswamp" without the quotes and it will start.

The jokes on the Quake 2 RTX page are:
2019: Nice PC, but can it run Quake 2?

I have to say, it does look great. Ran like crap at 4k though.
I also forgot how tough those old shooters are. I died, way more than I thought I would, even though I still remember all the maps and enemy locations.

So now there is Doom RTX:

Banned now, of course, but easy to find if you know how to use Google.
