Nothing wrong with pictures, selfies and videos, but many people get so wrapped in posting what they’re doing that they don’t really experience what they’re doing to create actual memories.

Have always taken my own and take great pride in them. This new millennial`s crap is driving me mad. So much so that we have officially retired from our jobs managing Garden Terrace Apts after a 25 year sentence. Yes, that is what it has been like for me. Just had a new boss with ideals not unlike those, beyond stupid and forcing much of it on us. I let her know in that were are completely burned out living at work this long. We are packing up and moving to Spokane Washington in a month. Taking on new jobs and new lives. Going to be a real adventure me, Since I was the one holding it down all this time. After my wife had her stroke 3 years ago they made her part time, all the while working FT at Walmart.
Its all a work in progress, awaiting our apt application to go through and her job transfer to much higher paying position. I am looking at working at grow farm. New life for me.

Good luck on the move, JimK. I've always found moving to a new state to be exciting, although I've stayed in the Deep South.
By age...
Birth-21: Baton Rouge, LA (3 years as adult) 21-29: Atlanta, GA (8 years) 29-42: Jacksonville, FL (13 years) 42-51 (currently): Baton Rouge, LA (9 years)
I enjoy being back home now and I plan to stick around for a while, certainly as long as my parents are still alive (80, but doing great). But will I still want to live here 20+ years from now? I dunno, I can see us selling everything and moving to some entirely different place like Astoria, Oregon ("The Goonies" and "Kindergarten Cop"). Live in a small house with a small yard, easier to maintain in our 70's. Who knows, maybe we stay right here to the end. The thought of packing all our stuff and moving again isn't so appealing any more.
Man, you're moving quite a distance away. Best of luck with your new lives.

Nothing wrong with pictures, selfies and videos, but many people get so wrapped in posting what they’re doing that they don’t really experience what they’re doing to create actual memories. I found that at airshows, too busy looking through the lens to really enjoy the display, so the last few shows I've been at I have left the camera at home and enjoyed the show much more, though sometimes I do miss having the camera with me.

The actual News story that I saw yesterday was focused on vacation selfie-type pics. The older YT video I posted above was the closest I could find to the story. The person being interviewed mentioned that they get more social media Likes and positive comments with professional pics, which are often touched up to make the background sky bluer and their teeth whiter. It's the longing for more "Likes" for what sometimes amounts to fakery that I have the most problem with. I tend to take those kinda pics when I'm in a really good place (more state of mind than location). Then months and even years later, when I'm not in such a good place, I go back and look at them and they lift me up. I don't care how yellow my (our) teeth are, they're not meant to be glamour shots (often quite the opposite). Maybe I'm overthinking it or maybe I've burned out with the pic narrative (was never motivated enough to post my second NYC trip, but then it's not something that's completely new any more). ++++++++++ Good comments about missing the experience for pics, RK and Alicatt. Remember my 2017 Blue Angels thread? http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4352769/ive-got-the-blues-this-morning#Post4352769I had fun making that thread but never felt a need to repeat it, and now I can focus more on the show than getting lots of pics.
