Took some finagling to make it work but here's the new Enterprise.

I had to move the entire model a bit so it synced up with the invisible airfield that the planes actually take off and land on.

Then I added targetable deck planes, AA and 5 inch turrets.

Lastly, I added an American flag and wake graphics -

I think it's a vast improvement over the old single piece model.

I still need to look at the Saratoga and Hornet models for inclusion in the upgrade pack. Fortunately, a lot of the work involved in the Enterprise will transfer over to these two ships.

Another new addition to the SPAW upgrade are sea going tugs towing crippled ships -

Lookin' really good. I'm eagerly anticipating their integration into the game.

Thanks, moggy.

I took a look at the Hornet and the Saratoga models and they all look like then same set except for different deck numbers.

This is fine for the Hornet as it is very similar to the Enterprise.

However, the island on the Saratoga is going to take some work as it's a very different design.

And while I was at it I revisited the USS Long Island, which is in the original SPAW. The model doesn't adequately represent the real ship so I'm going to do some work on that one too.

Yorktown is the same model, different skin.

Having made the breakthrough, perhaps we can also take on the PAW multipart battleship and light/heavy cruiser models. I had them converted for EAW use, but hadn't got as far as replacing block colour elements with a proper skin.

Japanese models ditto.

Great work. We are in Rochefort for thee weeks, and yesterday we visited La Rochelle which is half an hour away. However, I did not get to see any submarine pens or the remains thereof wink
The internet connection here is terrible, and this is the first time I have been online since we arrived on Saturday.

wink Jel

Thanks, Jel.

You really need to let us know when you're going to be away. Recent health issues make us worry.

The Saratoga and the Yorktown were two identical carriers, converted from battlecruisers, if I recall.

So one model modification would work for both. All they would need are different deck models so that the numbers painted on the deck are different.

On that note, I may try to use that same approach when upgrading the USS Long Island. Meaning, I'll use the old one piece model but remove the deck elements and replace them with the deck TMOD from the new 5 piece carrier.

True, the real ship was much smaller than the other carriers but since we only have one invisible airfield the ship models all have to match that dimension or the aircraft will end up taking off and landing past the edges of the model.

And also, once the Long Island is upgrade it can be converted to any number of escort carriers using the same "deck only" modification. ( In case anyone were to take on other Pacific scenarios)

We have finally got a good connection at the "Maison de Curistes" which is directly across the street from our residence smile
Unfortunately my surgeons were unaware that my recent op precludes me from having the spa treatment, which is the reason why we are here. When we arrived on Saturday for the doctor's appointment we got the bad news frown
D's spa treatment is only about 2hrs 30 mins in the late afternoons, so although I am missing out on the spa and mud stuff there are lots of interesting things to do here wink
