They never addressed why Bran was zoned out during the war with the dead. You could assume he was monitoring what was going on, but they could’ve done more with it. Arya’s ending seemed like spin off material. IMO Jon is going to be the king of the true north. Supposedly the threat is passed now and they’re used to living in Winter. It would’ve been nice to learn more about what’s in the extreme north. Could be a lot of weirdness up there. Also, why a Nights Watch at all? Or a wall for that matter? They still use the gate? They should be on good terms with the wildlings now. Lots of questions.

Jon is only escorting the wildlings north, he'll return to the wall after that. Night Watch is still needed to guard against the beats and monsters of the north, like giants etc. They'll likely pop back up again It is also a dumping ground for bastards and criminals, as Tyrion says. And it's amusing that a Targaryan is at the Wall again, Jon's great grand-uncle Aemon was there too at the beginning of the show (Master Aemon). So it's kind of a circle closing.

While it's up for debate, I'm thinking Jon is now The King Beyond The Wall. What are they going to do - send men after him? He's kind of over the whole Night's Watch thing, and there is a whole sovereign kingdom between him and the Slag Throne.
I love the institutional inertia shown at Castle Black - gotta raise and lower that gate even though there's a huge mile wide hole in The Wall not far to the east. I guess it's to keep the dire wolves out, but the main reason for it has been destroyed.
Remember, please, that the Wildlings wanted to go South not because of the Winter, but the White Walkers. It's rather like complaining about a blizzard in Minnesota to the Inuit of Alaska....they are not impressed.
Weather in GoT is closely tied to what is needed for the plot or story at the moment.
It can dump snow so deep horses can't make it from south of the Last Hearth to Winterfell almost overnight for Stannis, but clear itself off for a quick trip to The Wall for Jon. I also like that while it is cold and snows, none of the rivers or streams seem to ice over. This explains the complete lack of ice skates in Westeros.

Yeah, Jon’s done with the lot of it and going to the place he can have a life. The Watch is long behind him now. Anything scary up north will be dealt with by those up north...and him. With the wildlings, he’s respected because he earned it, not by birth, and they’d die for him. You can’t just walk away from that. I think he’ll keep them unified and they’ll be better for it. There’s nothing for him south of the wall. Maybe he’ll find another wildling wifeling.

. There is a really great interview from many years ago where the creator of the show "Babylon 5" was asked by a fan how fast the Minbari "Whitestar" ships could travel. He simply replied: "At the speed of plot".

Winter's gone. When they walk out of the tunnel you see a shot with a little green sapling peeking out of the snow. I doubt that Jon will be King beyond the wall - there is no more need for that role. But he certainly will hold a special position because he saved their lifes. While it looks like he's wearing the black, the way he looks back I also think that he will stay north and not join the ranks of the watch again. Maybe he can assume an ambassador role Sam is in an iffy position as well, still man of the watch, (unfinished grand-)maester, and what about his unborn child - shall it be b4stard-born? Anyway the question why he took part in the meeting of the lords - must have been already as grand-maester, as he is not allowed to hold lands and titles as man of the watch. Will the Iron Islands be part of the North or the 6 kingdoms - in which case one would wonder to which kingdom they would belong - or it becomes 7 kingdoms again?!?!

It was a huge oversight by the showrunners to act as if the wall and the night watch were still necessary even though there were now zero threats in the north due to the destruction of the white walker army and the Wildlings now being on friendly terms with the Seven Kingdoms. As mentioned before, the Night’s Watch was as much a place to send criminals, misfits, and undesirables so they’re someone else’s problem as it was a military force. Are the Thenns all dead? The Bay of Ice and Bay of Seals are both good places for raiders or slavers to come ashore, Night’s Watch patrols in the Gifts would be helpful to find any.

I don't see why wouldn't the Queen of the North (Sansa) which was against sending Jon to the night's watch in the first place, pardon Jon and relieve him from his duties as a Night's Watchman??
Good point and that's all kinds of weird isn't it? And WHY do they all just agree to let her secede like that? "Oh sure, whatever..." I can see the Nights Watch as an alternative to prison, some kind of last option just short of banishment, but apparently you can get away with walking away from the vows anyway, so what's the point? Just call it part of the army and a regular outpost. Were they going to rebuild the wall? If so, why? It's not like there aren't ships, that wall isn't keeping much out that isn't a water-fearing zombie.

That's just one example of the hurried feeling about the whole last episode. Very much of a, "Okay, we're done. Let's wrap this up and go home!" look. Wasn't up to the rest of the series, at all. Still, it remains one of my favorite television events of all time. I was completely invested in the characters and story and so were millions of others. It kept you interested and wanting to come back.

They don't know their world boundaries. Arya is goisng to see what's west, jon is either
-escorting wildlings to the place they choose to settle and check it's safe now, then come back to night watch. It's, of course, expected to be safe now that night's king has been defeated but, who knows ? They don't know th northern boundary, there could be a night kings hive there ?
-on his way to explore north up to the pole and beyond (assuming their world is spheric)
-establshing himself as king of wildlings (i don't think he his, tbh.His red head pal seems qualified)
Bran let her secede because ´
-North always had a large autonomy, and gave much blood to defeat cersei
-he knows she wants to be queen, and doesn't want to marry her, so it's the easiest way.
-nobody wants a war against north,no one feels comfortable about imposing something to sansa, and everyone knows how stubborn she can be.
Sansa won't pardon jon because:
-she has no right to do so in the name of whole westeros, she cando it in north's name only.
-she's happy having her own kingdom and doesn't want any opposition to use jon as an excuse to decrown her.

It was a huge oversight by the showrunners to act as if the wall and the night watch were still necessary even though there were now zero threats in the north due to the destruction of the white walker army and the Wildlings now being on friendly terms with the Seven Kingdoms. Finally saw last episode last night. More thoughts later. To your point, however, I don't think the white walkers ever die, as they walked thousands of years earlier and were defeated by dragon glass as well. I feel the writers did a poor job closing this loop and explaining this to the audience in the end--and my theory is they will return, yet again, when the King of the Night is reborn, and I think he is just as tied to the history of Westeros as Bran is, likely intertwined with the same source as Bran encountered when he went north. Like the seed from a sapling. One incarnation dead, another will be reborn. The only question is, if this is so, why is Bran not aware of this, as he seemingly knows everything.

LOL Archie.
Can anyone think of another tv series where a major character was a protagonist for several seasons and then turned out to be the opposite in the last season of the show? Not picking on you in general, Panzer--just your posts stand out. :P Going backwards in this thread, since I finished series last night... If you recall, Daenerys brother was sick, twisted, evil and nuts, and her father, the Mad King, was also ruthless. This turn of her personality has been in her blood since she was born, and way back in season one when the she met with the witch, there was arguably some foreshadowing of what was to become of her--the whole death for life thing, and that dream she had where she approached the throne in a later season, and was taken from it, never claiming title as queen. So the framework has long been in place for her to fail in her quest--that she went mad, that's in her DNA. She had to die. There is no way to atone for the deaths of millions beneath her torch. The crime must be paid for by her own blood. I'm glad finally, for once in Jon Snow's life, he grew decisive, stopped being a cuck, and manned up and did what he had to do. Otherwise, he never was intelligent enough to rule the seven kingdoms. That Sansa is the north--is debateable, too. Despite what Tyrion said.

Gah...what a colossal disappointment this season was. It was so bad that it actually devalued the other good seasons. Oh, well. On to Chernobyl.
