Hi all

I am new to this sim and am looking at optimizing the sim for my desk top pc

I run an I7-8700 cpu @ 3.2 ghz with turbo boost enabled

32 gig of ram (4 8gig sticks)

An MSI GeForce 2070 RTX 8 gig GDDR 6

I have placed the sim on a 250gig ssd

I have a 27inch wide screen at 60hz and run it at 1920- 1080

so far my FPS range from 40 to 60.

Would I be better off leaving it stock or running sweetfx ect?

And what mods do you believe contribute to sim immersion, you know the divorce kind

opinions welcome

Kennel

I found that setting my Nvidia virtual sync to "fast" worked wonders, with SweetFX on too

make mistakes and learn from them

I5 4440 3.1Ghz, Asrock B85m Pro3, Gtx 1060 3GB

Welcome Kennel,I have a I7 4790k,Gtx1070. 27" 2560x1440 60hz monitor.

I agree with lederhosen ..fast sync pulls me 60-75fps the vast majority of the time. Only time I dip below is take/off and landings but that's with using the airfield mods,I fly at 1440p. Il post some settings and what mods I use in a bit if your interested pal.

Also every background setting that's not required gets turned off, don't leave any internet windows open etc. In fact apart from Kaspersky and the essential Win stuff and track ir everything else pretty much gets shut down (I use free advanced system care) to close unnecessary programs.

Il PM you my settings and the mods i use Kennel, also download the free skins on the main WOFF store page and any skins on the mods page,i really recommend them for immersion, its a 2.1gb download but once extracted its a lot bigger (my skins folder is 18GB). Also make sure the latest patch is installed (currently 4.21)

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

77Scout's 'News" mod is the best mod to improve immersion, obviously (grin, just kidding).

Actually, I find that immersion mostly comes from how you play the game. You will find it hard to feel immersed in WW1 if you have a bunch of 'magic writing' all over your screen, so I turn off labels, TAC, displays, HUD ... everything. Flying in real time as much as possible (avaoiding time compression) helps as well, and as a bonus will speed your divorce as longer mission time will mean you never see your family. Flying DID (dead is dead) is good too, so you really feel the fear of dying.

Cheers!

My current rig is all AMD:

MSI B350 Motherboard
Ryzen 5 2600 CPU
MSI RX-580 GPU
16 GB RAM (2 x 8 GB sticks
My monitor is a 32" Dell, also 1920 x 1080

I tried Sweet FX, and it caused a crash every time I tried to load the game.
Other than that I run most of the mods., and get a constant 60 FPS, except when in high Time Compression. The it drops down to a very, very slow rate (wandering between 14 and 30 FPS). I run several careers at once, so I kind of have to use TC. I also run several background programs at once, sometimes Alt-Tabbing out of the game to looks something up. This causes no problems at all.

I'm also flying very early in the war, and all the planes are missing one piece of vital equipment or another. The BE.2c has no compass. Some others have no air speed indicator. How do you fly with no compass?

Final thoughts: Try whatever mods appeal to you. With JSGME you can install and uninstall mods at will, so if one doesn't work you don't have to rip out the game and reinstall it. You just unplug the mod and get on with your life.

In the very early craft instrumentation was a minimum, many didn't have some, what you would consider these days "vital", instruments. You flew by the seat of your pants looking out of the side at landmarks, or used a personal compass, watch etc.
You simulate that using the F5 dials, which can also be customized, moved, removed etc.

Having said that, the BE2c DOES have a compass, you aren't looking hard enough smile. It also has a shed full of instruments compared to others.

To see it easily you really need head tracking as it's tucked away - see pic.
You can get to it using panning with keys (scrolllock off) etc or mouse look (press right mouse button).

That's exactly what I do.

I still haven't got my head-tracking to work properly, but I use the mouse all the time. On the floor, right in front of the seat! Who would have guessed?

Well, now I know, and thanks for showing me that.

You use the direction of the shadows. The shadow cast by the sun on your wing makes a great compass. You also need to have a good map (e.g. RAF_Louvert maps) and follow landmarks. It is quite easy with practice and really adds to the experience. Flying to the target area is no longer a boring drone as you are busy navigating the entire time.

You really can get along without any of the guages. e.g. No altimeter? Look at the ground and see how high you are. No airspeed indicator? Listen to the wind whistle and look at the ground to tell how fast you are moving. And so on. It is actually fun to have to use skill and ingenuity to fly, just as the real pilot would have had to do in the early war.
