My home network is down. Arris SB6121 router lights all indicate it is working properly and is connected to the internet. Netgear AC1200 router is powered up but the light indicating it is connected to the modem is not lit. I went and bought a new cat5 cable to make that connection but no change.
So, dead router right?

I have a modem, an Arris SB6121, and a separate router, a Netgear AC1200.
Both have been turned off / unplugged all night now. Going to try again now.....

No joy.
Lights on modem indicate that it detects being connected to the router, but the light on the router indicating that it is connected to the internet, through the modem, is not on.
Thinking about the ping test, I assume that just means that the PC can see the router not that the router can "see" the internet.

Check your cable from the wall to modem, as well as ethernet from modem to router again. Physically unplug at both ends and reconnect both. Pinging the router, which is the gateway IP, means the pc can find the router, so your LAN is ok, but it doesn’t mean the modem is online. There should be a status light on the modem indicating it’s online. If in your config for your router, you should find a status somewhere stating if the modem is online and if it’s found, but not online.
I agree, connect the pc directly to the modem and give that a shot. Are there outages in your area? This is an aging modem, has there been a change in your service?
Just because it happens...be sure you plugged the modem in the correct port on the router when you put it back and not one of the device ports.

Modem is less than 2 years old, router is 10 months old

I think it's been out for going on 10 years, sold under Motorola. It's probably fine, I used to have one. Any luck bypassing the router?

Sorry, I missed that post where you said that. Does seem to point to the router. This started on its own, no changes to the cables or configuration? You could try resetting it to default, but I don't see why anything would've changed on it's own. Maybe a power surge/lightning? These things aren't built that tough. Good luck with the new one.

Started Tuesday morning, I fired up Chrome and checked a couple of websites and suddenly nothing would load about 2 minutes later. Reset modem/router, no joy. Rest again, nothing.
Weird how it worked for a bit and died that way.

New router arrived yesterday ( Amazon one day shipping is nice!), installed and working fine now. Got another Netgear router, different model however. Hope it lasts longer than the previous one.

Unfortunate about the not-so-old one, but good news about the new one! Nothing wrong with Netgear, probably some fluke.
