Hello!

I did a search through the forum for anything having to do with Saiktek X52 Joystick/Throttle systems, but found nothing on actually disabling the (3D) Twist Rudder function. The Saitek X52 (and other variations?) have a built-in rudder control that is used by twisting the joystick left or right for rudder control. Is it possible to use (analog) rudder pedals via a joystick port on a Soundblaster card? How do you disable the digital rudder controls, and implement the analog rudder pedals?

Thanks in advance!!

I have a Logitech J/S and Saitek rudder pedals, both connected by USB cables.
This is a copy of a post I made about setting it up:
I have just set up my Logitech joystick and Saitek rudder pedals combination in Windows 7.
The critical sections of my "eaw.ini" file read:

============================
[CONTROLS]
Force Feedback=0
Force Feedback Gain=7500
Flight Sensitivity=1.000000
Camera Sensitivity=5.000000
Swap Mouse X=0
Swap Mouse Y=0
Windows Joystick=1
JoystickDeadZone=4
Snapview Speed=5
Device1 Port=1
Device2 Port=2
Device3 Port=3
Rudder Device=2
Throttle Device=1
Stick Device=1

Key Device=0
POV Device=0
Guns Convergence Z=0
Guns Convergence Y=0
============================

and
============================
[Remappable Keys]
FLIGHT CONTROL=Joystick
CAMERA CONTROL=Mouse
RUDDER CONTROL=Rudder
THROTTLE CONTROL=Throttle

etc

============================

It is essential to use the windows control panel to set the joystick as the preferred device:

Select the joystick

Click "Advanced"

Set the joystick as the preferred device.

You may be able to adapt this information, but please note that this cannot be done for EAW versions 1.2 and the FXExe because they are very limited and do not support multiple controllers.
It works in 1.28c and later versions of the 1.28 series including UAW160.

Hi Mr Jelly,

Thanks for the inclusion of the details on how to get EAW to recognize my rudder pedals. I have set it up on my XP machine to match your eaw.ini file. After that, I went into the XP game controllers applet and configured the rudder pedals on my dummy 2-axis 2 button joystick, as well as setting up the Joystick to be the Preferred device. I pulled out the physical "switch"on the lower left of the joystick to restrict the movement of the twist rudder on the joystick.

I also went into the Saitek SST configuration routine and took a look to see if I could disable the twist rudder on the stick, but saw nothing there. I changed it from Axis to Bands to see if that would make any difference. I went into 1.40CDF and lo and behold, the analog rudder pedals seemed to be working, albeit, weakly. Sluggish, and not very much range. I then changed it back to Axis in the SST configuration for RUDDER, and it didn't seem to make much difference. Maybe that's all I can expect given that the X52 Pro Joystick system doesn't seem to be setup to disable the Twist Rudder.

Thank you for responding to this. The detail was excellent, and the game seems to be responding to the rudder pedals, which is what I was after.

Thank you again!

To effectively disable the twist input from the stick, go into your windows control panel for it, and set the Z axis deadzone to be very large. That, combined with the lockout switch, should keep it from affecting your game

GoldenHound104,
I'm not sure what kind of rudder response your getting, but it far less in EAW than other sims. But there's a few settings you can change to help out in the EAW.INI or by the game menu options. Nothing rudder specific, its an overall setting if I recall without looking.
