Which Chicago?

The rocking early to mid 70’s Chicago or the schmaltzy late 70’s to mid 80’s Chicago?

Ok I just watched the videos and I’m glad to see it’s the former.

I REALLY like the addition of the saxes to the horns, they give a great bottom end that I think sounds better than the original.

Man, don't get me started about the nostalgia I have for...

Those guys on first post sound great, I could listen to them all day.

EDIT: I like *some* of the sappier Peter Cetera Chicago/solo work, maybe a half dozen songs.

Some rock groups have undergone stylistic changes and improved greatly such as the Beatles but other groups got worse after the major change. Chicago falls under the latter category in my opinion.

I'd say *most* fall under that later category. Beatles and some other 60's aside, nothing touches the 70's to very early-80's for the type of music I listen to. I loved living in the 80's but like Napoleon Dynamite, I was probably living a decade behind, still listening to 8-tracks until mid-decade (LP and metal/chrome cassette when quality really mattered...as I could afford it).

But I admit, I was totally spazzing in '84 (that's what your first girlfriend will do to you biggrin )...

...and I still listen to *some* 80's Chicago, it just doesn't compare with their sound in that first (and very popular) Greatest Hits I posted above.

Not many super groups of the 70's improved in the 80's+.

Another group that changed a lot from the 70's to the 80's was Genesis and even though their 80's stuff was more "mainstream" I still liked most of it.
