"Nah, I'd let it go for $40.00 though, case and all."
"Hmm... That's too much and I don't really need another case (it'd be nice though)."
<Opens wallet and pulls out all money (possibly all I had, or maybe a five or ten slipped into my front pocket)>.
"I'll give you $26.00 for the box, final offer."

Sometimes I'd walk away from a yard sale with a box full of tapes and sometimes not. Much easier to score big as the 80's moved on.

Hard to say "hi-fidelity" and "8-track" in the same sentence, but an effort was made...

8-tracks were the original portable sound?...

...although the equipment to play them on often looked junky...

My appreciation for 8-track will always run deep, but I'll stick with MP3 (burned from my CDs)...

One of my brothers, a few years older than me, had an 8-track in his car, bolted to the transmission/drive shaft hump under the dash. The best part was when a song would have to span tracks and fade out, the you'd hear the "click" of it changing tracks, then fade back in again. Good times :P

Yeah, the "ku-clunk" of advancing to the next track wasn't very subtle, was it? smile

The fade out-and-in on some songs is so burned into my memory that I still half expect it when listening to CD/MP3 (i.e. Rush's "The Camera Eye").

I'm still waiting for the digital release of the extended version of the Stones' "Beast of Burden", found only on the "Some Girls" 8-track (seen in a couple of my above pics).

So when was the last 8-track released? Less than 10 years ago... smile
