AMD Ryzen CPUs Outsold Intel Core CPUs For Three Straight Quarters at Major German Retailer – Ryzen 7 2700X More Popular Than Intel’s Core i9-9900K

On AMD’s front, the most popular CPU was the 6 core, 12 thread, Ryzen 5 2600 (non-X) which is a pretty good mainstream CPU

With a market share of 15.8%, the highest since Q4 2014, AMD is looking in pretty good shape. The AMD desktop CPU share is climbing steadily and it is all due to a strong product portfolio which will soon be expanded by a more refined and updated 3rd Generation Ryzen family in mid of 2019.

Nvidia latest driver enables DXR on more GPUs

Although the support for DirectX Raytracing is now available for Pascal, Volta-based Titan V, and non-RTX Turing graphics cards like GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660, you can't expect any miracles as, according to performance numbers released by Nvidia, those GPUs will have a hard time coping with those ray tracing effects.

Rumor: AMD Navi Debuting at E3, Launching July 7 With RTX 2080 Class Performance

Keep in mind however at this point in time these are just rumors that should definitely be taken with a grain of salt.

Yes, these are just rumors. But, available July 7 seems reasonable.

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 50th Anniversary Edition CPU Leaks Out – Red Team’s Last 12nm+ Hurrah Before The Arrival of 7nm Ryzen 3000 CPUs

Rumored to be the best current Ryzen and not overpriced. But, it will be out-of-date this Summer when 7nm arrives.

Its just to celebrate 50 years of AMD.

Tom's Hardware did the work and Extreme Tech summarized it. They both conclude: There is no comparison -- AMD Freesync wins this one.

Quote
FreeSync, G-Sync Go Head to Head in New Monitor Comparison

[Tested] two new monitors from the same company — AOC — head to head. The AOC Agon AG241QG is a new 24-inch G-Sync panel, while the AOC Agon AG241QX is a FreeSync panel.

They differ in two significant ways: The QG [Nvidia] G-Sync panel costs $600, while the [AMD=Freesync] QX is $320, and the [AMD-Freesync] QX is the absolute and clear winner of the comparison.

the QX panel proved to be far better calibrated out of the box. It also offers a brighter white, deeper black, vastly better contrast ratios, and a much better default experience

As far as FreeSync versus G-Sync performance, the two were identical. No visual differences could be detected in testing. The dynamic range on the QX panel is nearly 2x larger than the QG

Tom's Hardware Article

This is only one test and the supposedly identical monitors may have had internal differences (besides Sync). However, the AMD-FreeSync panel cost far less -- implying that hidden advantages are less likely.

Some rumors confirmed regarding AMD and PS5 consoles.

Quote
Exclusive: What to Expect From Sony's Next-Gen PlayStation

Don't expect it anytime in 2019, but the next PlayStation console is well on its way—and it's packing ray-tracing support and a loadtime-killing solid-state hard drive.

[Sony's] Mark Cerny would like to get one thing out of the way right now: The videogame console that Sony has spent the past four years building is no mere upgrade.

The CPU is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and contains eight cores of the company’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. The GPU, a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family, will support ray tracing

The AMD chip also includes a custom unit for 3D audio that Cerny thinks will redefine what sound can do in a videogame.

[An SSD will be used for storage] Cerny claims that it has a raw bandwidth higher than any SSD available for PCs [this is expected to have impact on in-game graphics as well as load times]

AMD Ryzen 3 3200G ‘Picasso’ Desktop Processor Pictured, Based on 12nm Zen+ Architecture – Launch of AM4 Ryzen 3000 APUs Imminent

The new Ryzen 3000 processors will come with enhanced performance per watt and higher clocks compared to the Ryzen 2000 APUs which were introduced last year.

The AMD Ryzen 3000 APU lineup should not be confused with the Ryzen 3000 CPU lineup. AMD’s Ryzen 3000 family of APUs, codenamed Picasso, will be featuring the existing 12nm based Zen+ core architecture which will be a key upgrade over the Ryzen 2000 family of APUs that feature the 14nm Zen (1) core architecture.

you’ll have to wait for the Ryzen 4000 series line of APUs to get a taste of 7nm Zen 2 and Radeon Navi cores on the same die.

AMD RX Vega 64 Outperforms NVIDIA RTX 2080 by up to 20% in Vulkan Enabled World War Z

Let’s start with the most popular resolution out there, 1920×1080, with Vulkan enabled AMD manages to take all top 3 spots, with its Radeon VII, Radeon Vega 64 Liquid Cooled Edition and Radeon Vega 64 [all beating RTX 2080Ti] .. We see a similar pattern across the stack, with the RX 580 outperforming the twice as expensive RTX 2070, and the RX 570 outpacing the GTX 1660 Ti.

At 2560×1440, the green team manages to close the gap slightly. Although the RX Vega 64 still manages to slug it out with the RTX 2080 Ti and maintain its lead over the RTX 2080

[At 4K] the RX Vega 64 maintains its lead over the RTX 2080, whilst the RTX 2080 Ti manages to claw its way up the performance ladder.

this is a great showing for the red team and goes to show what a properly implemented low overhead API can do

Vulcan is based on AMD Mantle -- the original low CPU overhead graphics driver. But, even I'm shocked that my card beats a 2080Ti at 1080p and 2K (2080Ti edges past at 4K).

Nominal confirmation of earlier rumor.

AMD Radeon VII and Ryzen 7 2700X ’50th Anniversary Edition’ Confirmed – Radeon VII Graphics Card To Feature Red Accents, Launching on 29th April

As the name suggests, these products would mark the celebration of AMD’s Golden Jubilee as the company was founded back in 1969.

both products would receive special treatment, details of which are yet to be confirmed.

Rumored slightly higher clocks for 12nm Ryzen 7, slightly lower price, 7nm Radeon VII special colors. As noted previously, this is just for anniversary celebrations. The new 7nm CPU and 7nm Navi GPU are due later this year (July rumor).

AMD Ryzen 5 3400G and Ryzen 3 3200G APU Specifications Detailed – 12nm Zen+ Based 3200G Delidded and Destroyed By Leaker, Features Soldered IHS

AMD Ryzen 5 3400G and Ryzen 3 3200G Desktop APU Specifications Leaked – 12nm Zen+ Picasso Lineup For AM4, Great CPU Overclocking Potential

In the last post, we made it clear that the Ryzen 3000 CPUs and Ryzen 3000 APUs are two different things. The Ryzen 3000 CPUs will be based on the new 7nm Zen 2 architecture while the APUs will be based on the existing 12nm Zen+ architecture

According to the leaker, the Ryzen 3 3200G can be overclocked to 4.3 GHz with 1.38V which is impressive considering its predecessor, the Ryzen 3 2200G, which could only manage 4.0 GHz with the same voltage. The Ryzen 5 3400G, on the other hand, can push clocks of up to 4.25 GHz with a voltage bump of 1.38V while the Ryzen 5 2400G could only manage 3.925 GHz with the same voltage. The overclock was applied across all cores.

So far, virtually all AMD Ryzens feature being built for overclocking (solder under the cover for excellent heat transfer and unlocked cores). Not all Intel are overclockable.

The OC they got squares with my Ryzen 5 2400G experience. I got 4.0GHz on all 4 cores at 1.35 volts (same on my 1800X and 1600X machines).

As noted, these 3200G and 3400G are 12nm (not 7nm). Their OC capability gives credibility to the rumor that the high end 7nm Ryzen "gaming CPU" will have a base frequency in the mid-4GHz range and boost to over 5GHz on 16cores/32threads. If so, I'm buying one.

Sapphire Pulse RX7900XTX, 3 monitors = 23P (1080p) + SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey Neo G7 1000R curve (4K/2160p) + 23P (1080p), AMD R9-7950X (ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420), 64GB RAM@6.0GHz, Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER MB, (4x M.2 SSD + 2xSSD + 2xHD) = ~52TB storage, EVGA 1600W PSU, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower, ASUS RT-AX89X 6000Mbps WiFi router, VKB Gladiator WW2 Stick, Pedals, G.Skill RGB KB, AORUS Thunder M7 Mouse, W11 Pro

An article that fairly compares AMD CPUs to Intel CPUs:

Quote
AMD vs. Intel: What's the difference between CPUs?

Right now, the competition for CPU dominance between AMD and Intel is closer than we've seen since the first Athlon 64 parts in 2003. AMD hasn't held the performance crown since 2006—not in every meaningful category at least—but with 7nm Ryzen 3000 CPUs coming this summer, and Intel still stuck at 14nm with Coffee Lake, this year is perhaps AMD's best shot at the title.

The above is the final paragraph in the article. Note: AMD lead in 2006 -- and a couple years before. However, Intel paid Original Equipment Manufacturers (Dell primarily) to not use AMD. This was ilegal and proven in Court. Intel had to pay AMD $1.5 Billion -- which they failed to do in any timely manner. AMD nearly went out of business as a result. Its the main reason why I'm an AMD fan (besides the point that their stuff is better than most think). Intel makes good stuff, but I can''t support them because unopposed they would "take us to the cleaners" (in my opinion).

The article may be wiorth a read -- if one needs to get caught up on the relative technology pluses and minuses.

AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs Allegedly Feature 15% Better IPC, Up To 4.5 GHz – X570 [Motherboards] Rumored To Have 40 PCIe Lanes, No 3rd Gen Ryzen Support on A320 Boards

motherboard makers have been supplied quad-core Zen 2 CPU samples to test them with their upcoming products. These CPUs were early samples which were only supplied for internal testing and not necessarily indicate final retail performance or clock speeds.

The report states that the samples allegedly feature a 15% boost in terms of IPC .. It is also reported that the boost frequency for these [quad core] samples is reported at up to 4.5 GHz

These were low end 4 cores for motherboard testing. Rumor noted previously is that the 16core/32thread will boost to over 5GHz. If that's combined with 15% higher instructions per clock, the new "gaming" Ryzen CPUs will be a significant step up.We'll see.

7nm Ryzen will be supported on 500 series, 400 series, and most 300 series motherboards -- but not supported on the low end 320 series motherboards (according to rumor).

Intel Admits CPU Shortages Will Continue Until Third Quarter of 2019

for its 14nm process node, the CPU shortages would not be resolved until the third quarter of the year...most of Intel’s future CPU SKUs would be built on the 14nm process until at least the end of 2020, and potentially even longer depending on the 10nm process’ progress.

[In addition] a leaked roadmap .. shows that most of Intel’s future desktop CPU SKUs will continue to be built on the company’s aging 14nm process up until the end of 2021, and potentially into 2022.

The attached leaked roadmap shows Intel 10nm aiming at 2021 -- but is "to be determined". I always take leaked information with the appropriate helping of salt -- could be a hoax roadmap. However, it is in line with other information we've read. Also, the roadmap indicates lower core counts at 10nm than expected (by me -- AMD rumored to have 7nm 16 core this Summer).

AMD Radeon VII Achieves ~100MH/s Mining ETH – Beats Radeon Pro Duo (Fiji) & Titan V

Radeon VII – Best New Mining GPU?

Compared to the Titan V, the Radeon VII is a much more compelling option. The Radeon VII is immensely cheaper, now available for $680 – $700, whereas the Titan V is within the $3000 range, and the Radeon VII achieves a higher hash rate per watt.

Radeon VII for Gaming?

The Radeon VII typically trades blows with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080, but in some cases, such as in World War Z, the Radeon VII, let alone the RX Vega 64, manages to beat the RTX 2080 Ti. TweakTown had also reported the Radeon VII surpassing the RX 2080 Ti, and the RX Vega 64 surpassing the GTX 1080 Ti in the Division 2 at 1080p and 1440p.

AMD Confirms Navi GPU Launching In Q3 2019

..most likely during Gamescom 2019

The Navi GPU is going to slot in somewhere between the Vega 56 and 64 in terms of performance levels and we have heard conflicting stories about its architecture.

[AMD's first Navi is| targeting the perf/$ segment instead of pure performance

AMD also announced that they would be launching the 7nm Ryzen processors in Q3 but this is old news by now (if you follow the leak scene) and we expect them to roll those out at the Computex Keynote

AMD’s 7nm Zen 2 Comes To AMD Ryzen 3000 Series CPUs First, EPYC Rome Confirmed For Q3 2019

AMD would now be bringing their next-generation Zen 2 based CPUs to the mainstream AM4 platform first. Starting off with their Ryzen 3000 CPUs, AMD will be hitting Intel at a time when blue team’s processors are faced by severe shortages due to the 14nm supply constraints. The shortages are expected to last till Q3 2019 and that gives AMD lots of time to take a major chunk of market share for themselves.

Just confirms that AMD 7nm gaming CPUs are coming (as has been rumored). Previous rumors have the 7nm 16c/32t at over 5GHz boost with 15% better performance per clock than current 12nm AMD CPUs.
