Yup, an absolutely massive amount of different aircraft and maps - really astonishing!!!! Kudos to all the modders for some incredible work! ...but unfortunately, compare those numbers to the number of campaigns. There are a ton of aircraft with absolutely nothing to do with as a sp (unless you fancy quicks) - so there is the big draw back. But yes, IL2 1946 continues to be an amazing product and there are LOTS of different choices from STOCK (now at 4.14) to BAT (4.12.2 base - massively modded (the everything and the kitchen sink pack, lol)), VPModpack (4.12.2 base - more mod light), YPack (4.13.4 base - more modded than VP, but far less than BAT), older stuff from HSFX, DBW, etc.

Any ideas when BAT will support v4.14 stock? No sure that is going to happen. It didn't move to 4.13 ...and I know that 4.14 is suppose to be difficult to mod too thanks to Team Daidalos (just reading elsewhere you can see that they are pretty much not in many modder's fan list - gosh they even messed up DCG integration).

Any ideas when BAT will support v4.14 stock? Never going to happen. BAT's great if your a mission designer, not if you want fun stuff to play. Shame too since it has way better flight models than VP modpack. VP has all the content to have fun with though.

...I actually really like YPack tbh (prefer it over VP modpack (though it is good)). For me, just running YPack and BAT installs (and my stock 4.14 just sits there - both the modded versions I play are so much better, imho). I do get the wibbly-wobblely aircraft often in BAT (don't like too much (doesn't happen with YPack - and the AI seems better at avoiding mountain collision with YPack as well (not sure if it is fm's, AI, or simply 4.13 vs 4.12 (or combo of several factors)). Both are great packs for different reasons - actually all three are great.

"BAT's great if your a mission designer, not if you want fun stuff to play." That might not be an exactly accurate statement. BAT ships with many missions and campaigns and there are a whole lot of old missions dating back to the early days of IL2 that work just fine too. The 2000 planes might seem a bit much seeing as variations of the 109 and the Spitfire hold 60 slots and the paint schemes/skins folder has 1,039 folders so almost half of the 2000 are variants. Interest has waned here but there is still life in this 18 year old sim, curved roads here and there, view distance being worked on and other interior stuff being sorted.

SAS put out: Modact 6.4 for IL2 4.13.4 Then that was used by another IL2 mod site to make Y PackSAS made it possible to mod 4.13 and FreeIL2modding put together the Ypack for it. These two are the major IL2 modding package sites remaining and in spite of past differences, have been brought closer together by the release of the mod destroying 4.14 mess.

Yes, give YPack a try. It includes more maps and aircraft than VP Modpack (but only focuses on the pretty well used prop aircraft - no obscure, never used, or rarely used types) - but the selection it includes is most excellent (including, for example, a version of each earlier P-38 whereas VP lacks this). Cockpits have been done, the flight models have been adjusted (actually really good) for 4.13 (creator of the pack is a fm guru). Includes revamped graphics and fx's, etc. It also includes lot's of optional adds if desired through JSGME (Vietnam, Korea, and Spanish Civil War are also big add-in modules here if desired). Really well put together pack. It gets less notice (which is unfortunate) because it isn't on the SAS site. It's probably considered mod-medium (in comparison to VP (light) and BAT (really heavy)). Anyways, it is a really solid choice. Flies well, looks good, good quality selection of aircraft (though missing early French stuff). Works great with all default campaigns and DCG. Some modded DCG campaigns work fine without altering (War Over Italy for Cup works fine with it, for example)...and I have adjusted Lonestar's stock Solomons DCG campaign to take advantage of the early P-38's (just feels wrong flying J's all the time, LOL). However, unfortunately, it doesn't have the campaign creator following as does BAT (unfortunate) - though campaign creation is relatively light across IL-2 1946 in general nowadays, sadly (but most active with BAT).
...but give it a go. I find it really well done, and like I said earlier, I run both YPack and BAT on my system (play as much as I can with YPack ...and go to BAT for stuff that just isn't possible in YPack without lots of additional add-ins/tinkering (eg, DCG Battle of France (for BAT), DCG Operation Pedistal (for BAT), etc - though I am actually considering doing the ground work to get some of them going in Ypack too ).
Anyway, have fun! It's nice to have options and all these packs have their own strengths and draw backs (VP, BAT, YPack).

The "Flying Ass Clowns" have a Sunday session which runs on their excellent server that rotates missions 24/7 using UP3 version. Up until recently many players would migrate to the BoX server after an hour or so, but recently tend to stay with with the '46' server. That says a lot for the longevity and content of the original sim, thanks to the talents of the SAS Modding Community.
