Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein

Thanks fellas. I had read to 'click on the name', but never connected it to the EDMC overlay. I tried clicking all over Inara though. Thanks Recluse that works great aside from having to be in that ship to do it. Otherwise it saves me a ton of time.

Having converted the venerable Python in to a mining vessel (I did what?!) I decided to give some love to the Krait now sitting in my hangar.
It's quite a versatile ship, but I seem to have most roles covered already. So I decided to set it up for combat, with a view toward becoming my AX ship down the line.
Frankly, I'm not feeling the engineer grind at the moment. Not only gathering mats, but just the act of traveling all over to get it all done.
Still, I bit the bullet and got it most of the way there last night.
G5 Thermal Resist w/Fast Charge shields G5 Dirty Drags Class 4 FSD Booster (can go higher, waiting to see final numbers) Undersized, overcharged power plant Reinforced Alloy 5A Scoop Distributor with charge enhanced but far from done Some other stuff
I put Beams on it, but not engineered yet. I also put autocannons on it, engineered them a little (overcharged), then swapped them with the ones from the Python which are further along (overcharged, autoloader).
Two A shield boosters with Res upgrade (only G3) and two E shield boosters with Heavy Duty (G3). This is only 600 mj, but resistances are really high.
I still have plenty of slots to play with. Just not into the engineering process. Need motivation.

Thanks and I do pin them of course. But you can't pin 'em all and can't pin experimentals, as you know. So that leaves me flying to and fro.
I pin Dirty Drives, but have a ship that I want Clean on is an example. All I can do is pin the one that I want to use the most, or use on the ships with the shortest jump range. That leaves others unpinned. I like remote engineering, but don't like it's limitations.
Last night I wanted to put thermal resist on my shields. I actually have two shield blueprints pinned! ..... Enhanced Lo-Power and Reinforced. Doh! Off to Lei Cheung. Grrrr
And he also does my shield boosters, which I can't pin because I've done that with his shield blueprint (or is that no longer the case and you can pin one of each module type per engineer?)

Took the Krait out to a CNB last night and attacked a wing of three small Elite ships. A Viper IV, a Cobra IV and I think a DBS. Managed to get my shields shot away, hull to 77% and significant module damage. Not sure what they were hitting me with, but I was shocked it happened so easily. Made my escape and flew home. This needs a rethink.
Using a G5 thermal resist BiWeave I'm getting just 600 mj. Not sure why it's so low. My FDL has double the mj with a smaller class BiWeave. It does have a couple more SBs, but that doesn't explain it all. My resistances are high, about 60% for all three. But whatever they were hitting me with seemed to ignore this and the shields were gone fast.

Here is what I'm currently running for combat; https://s.orbis.zone/2jvzI use standard amo reloads for those frags +15% damage. It will kill things pretty dam quick. Just ask BO and Recluse. Was running a Guardian shield booster but took it off

Thanks for the build.
Mr Skittles lol.
A few comments....
Scanner range really jumps out. I've been using Ds and get 6 km. Yours is double! Long range A
Great integrity, great shields. Low thermal resist. Do energy weapons give you trouble? No MRP I noticed.
Doesn't it run really hot? G4 OC'd PP. Did you have plans for additional whizbangs? Lots of power left over.
G5 shield boosters are awesome. I only have G3 access. Something to work on. Your G5 A heavy duty's are getting +73%. That sure helps.
I could survive in that ship. I probably need to ditch the BiWeave, or I should have reinforced it instead of thermal resist.
I appreciate you posting it Wingnuts.

The Krait earned it's stripes yesterday and justified it's place in the lineup. Took it out to do some core mining, and I found it quite suited for the role. Originally I had planned to use the Python, which would have worked. But as I maneuvered between the chunks of just-exploded space rocks and as I did FA-off flips to get in position to fire the charges, I realized that the Python would have been less well suited to this adventure. The visibility alone makes the Krait superior in my view. As Wingnuts noted, the AspX is also very well suited, but with fewer/smaller internal options, the Krait has the advantage in my eyes.
I would be happy if it had one more slot, as I can't fit everything I want/need plus a GFSDB. So jump is rather average. Otherwise I felt it was the perfect ship for mining operations and I'm glad I had decided to keep it.

Krain't go wrong.
Wingy has like 38 Kraits, all configured for different roles. (38 is a rough estimate) Very versatile. It's one of the few ships where one might think, this is the only one I need. It can do it all I reckon.

Now that I have owned one for a couple months, a few words about the Krait II.
To start with the conclusion, the Krait has surpassed the Python as the best all-rounder in my view. In many ways it is a Python. Same core internals sizes. Same hardpoint and utility slots. The only slot discrepancy is the Python has a class 6 optional that the Krait does not. So the Krait has less configurability. It can carry less. A C6 slot is a big slot, so that is significant.
As much as it pains me to say as a longtime Python proponent, there is only one other way the Python wins the face-off. Looks. The Python is a mean mother. It's such a fine looking ship to my eyes. Maybe even my favorite ship model in Elite. But aside from the extra slot and the fine looks, it now loses out to the Krait in virtually every other way.
That's especially true in speed, agility and the ability to mount a fighter. I don't employ minions (yet) so no practical value for me in the fighter. But it's an asset that others surely find appealing.
The superior performance is sweet. It hits just as hard (or harder with a fighter) as a Python. Protection is similar. But what I really like about it is the view. I put a very high value on cockpit visibility. All of my ships have good visibility aside from the Python and the Anaconda, and it may be no coincidence that those two are flown the least any more. In particular I value overhead visibility. Lift-line vis. If a ship doesn't have it I don't feel comfortable in it really. It might still be a good ship capable of doing the job, but if I can't see out of the top of the canopy I feel restricted. There's a certain margin of safety in it as well. But I spend so much time looking out of the top of the canopy that a ship without this feels wrong for me in a certain sense.
Since buying the Krait I have flown the Python once or twice. And now it sits in drydock with half of it's modules E-rated since I stole them for the Krait.
With my Courier and FDL engineering essentially done, I am turning my attention to the Krait. It has become my planetary lander and my mat gatherer. The role I will engineer it for is combat scavenger. A ship that can wade in to any CNB, CZ or RES and blow stuff up and scoot with the loot. It's a ship with no holes in it's game. FDev really hit the right notes with the Krait II design in my view. It just looks like sh!t from the front.

And here's how she looks at the mo. Poison Whiskey It's only half-baked at the mo. When done, shields should be just a touch over 1000mj with 1400+ thermal resist. I added a FSDI and a wake scanner. I swap in a SRV when needed. At the moment one class 6 slot is free, and gets the SRV when I need it. Not sure what to do with that slot to be honest. I like the speed (401/551) so not keen at the moment to load it down with more mass. And in PvE another HRP or something is just overkill for me. Maybe a Guardian shield booster if I ever get them unlocked. A fighter is a natural fit there, but not ready to go that route. If I ever hit combat Elite I will probably do so. Or even just once it's close. So another engineering project. But when done should be a very capable and versatile ship. Either the (beta) resting heat as shown on Coriolis just doesn't work, or I don't understand what it is showing. But this ship rests at 27% heat.
