I got 4 ships, names: Sidewinder - Capri Eagle - unnamed (never used it) Diamondback Explorer - Thistledown Asp Explorer - unnamed My Eagle is unnamed simply because initially I didn't even know I had it and I never really did anything with it other than take it for one spin. My Asp is unnamed just because I haven't hit on the right one yet. Capri is named that because my first car was a Ford Capri. Thistledown is named that because it was my first "deep" exploration, and the city in the sci-fi book "Eon" was called Thistledown. If any of you have ever read it, that city disappeared down an infinite artificial universe. I haven't done livery or avatar alteration, tbh I find that side of games to be uninteresting, and a little "my-little-pony"-esque No offence to anyone who does :/

Love this thread already. I feel sheepish sometimes mentioning ship names, and asking others what they call their ship. Many players probably don't care about it at all. But I grew up around the water, around boats, and fully subscribe to the traditions and superstitions of all things nautical. A ship's name is important! So with that said.... My fleet (minus the three I sold last week) iCourier -- Velocity. I actually changed the name of this ship. In order to not fall afoul of Poseidon I sold the old Courier and just bought another. Never change a ship's name! Or carry bananas. You have been warned. The name is because it boosts nearly 800 AspX -- Dawnbreaker. Named after the sword in Skyrim. I let my 8 year old son Ben name it. When he saw it it was silhouetted against a star, so appeared to 'glow' and it reminded him of the same effect on the sword. Python -- Takao After the Japanese cruiser. My concept for my Python was always 'armed merchant cruiser'. So a cruiser name fits. Orca -- Stratocaster I play guitar and own several Strats. Homage to one of the world's most perfectly designed instruments. FDL -- Eagle Weslake Named after Dan Gurney's 1967 Formula One car. To this day it remains the only American car to win a F1 race. The most beautiful race car of all time too DBX -- Mad Hops When I bought it then engineered it I said to myself, it has Mad Hops! And it stuck. Anaconda -- Rum Runner It's rare that I play Elite without a glass of Rum. Krait II -- Poison Whiskey Newest addition to the fleet. Named after the Lynyrd Skynyrd song. One of my favorite bands of all time. For what it's worth I have yet to buy a paint job or ship kit or any extras at all. But I am kicking around some new paints. Especially the FDL.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Hmm album names are a great idea. My favourite album has always been Tubular Bells, but I feel that's not a great name for an Asp. But another great Mike Oldfield album, Ommadawn, might fit.
*edit I think I'm going to go for "Ommadawn's Song".

I name mine after breeds of dog. Not played in a while so i can't remember the types, but my do-it-all ship is The Longdog, my heavy combat is The Saluki Lurcher, fast combat The Whippet and my miner The Dachshund. (Just done a CPU, Motherboard and RAM upgrade so I need to check out how it's affected performance in VR, but it's a pain in the arse switching from steering wheel to HOTAS controls!)
Gareth UNDERSTEER - is when you hit the wall with the front wing. OVERSTEER - is when you hit the wall with the back wing. HORSEPOWER - is how fast you hit the wall. TORQUE - is how far you can take the wall with you. Read my scale modelling blog at www.latibuliser.com or mfhmazda787.com

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein

The second one is an old Cheech and Chong routine.

Will probably sell the Type 6. I also have a couple of Eagles and Sidewinders spread around that I used for disposable taxis that should be scrapped. Plus another Cobra Mk. III sitting around. I should name or sell the FAS...since it never gets any use... I wish I could make a decal of that TENGU picture for my 'Conda! How erudite . Luckily I managed to find a few Erudite hot spots during my travels...

Yes, erudite and the lesser known recondite are often found together.
I sold three ships a couple weeks ago and it felt pretty good really. Could always buy them again later, you'll probably save the modules anyway. But I figured if I never fly them, may as well sell them. Then again, they aren't costing anything to be in drydock.
I'm getting to the point that many of you already are. That stage where you have tons of money, and a good selection of engineered modules in storage. So at any point you can buy whatever ship flips your fancy at the moment and you'll probably have what you need to install in it. Or at least fast track it. And once you have that sort of cash, the 10% hit you take selling the husk of the ship isn't even noticed.

Unfortunately, I don't have all that many Engineered modules in Storage. When I bought the Anaconda, I had to do ALMOST all of the ENGINEER Grind again, including finding HARD TO GET Materials. Honestly it is what stops me from realizing the CORVETTE Dream. A lot of the Anaconda Engineered modules would transfer, but I would really rather avoid the Outfitting Hokey Pokey whenever I wanted to fly another ship... LOL.. that grind was still a lot more fun than my current EXPLORATION GRIND...
