What the heck, I think I can view it on Netflix, but sometimes it's nice to own the hard copies.

I would have saved up a bit more and bought the Blu-ray set. That’s what I have. smile

Just curious, have you been able to compare the quality difference between the DVD version and the Blu-ray version? Generally, Blu-ray is better than DVD if the source material is already of high quality. This is especially true if the source material is film. But if Star Trek was originally recorded to video, I doubt if Blu-Ray will make enough difference to make up for the extra bucks.

I haven't compared the two, but my understanding is that the original Star Trek was filmed on 16mm film, not video, so it is probably better than most video sources.

Yes, it would be. Good point. I'll have to concede that the visual quality of Blu-Ray will be better, but my budget thinks that DVD is good enough. smile

I have both the DVD’s and Blu-ray and yes, the DVD’s still look pretty good when upscaled on a Blu-ray player. The remastering of the episodes with the inclusion of CGI where appropriate was really well done.

Oh, that's right - added CGI. I completely forgot about that. Now I have even more to look forward to. smile

Been watching season 1 of the TOs (remastered) myself. Sort of falling in love with TOS all over again.

It was on BBC American sometime back, and it was the first time I'd seen them in many years, and I had the same reaction - so many of them were just so well made, and better than almost any of the TNG episodes. The characters were better, and the stories just had more depth.

And most importantly, the CGI isn't overused at all but where it is used, it really adds a nice touch. The "Enterprise Incident" from season 3 and "The Doomsday Machine" from season 2 really benefit a lot from the CGI.

I only just got the set in the mail, but I am getting stoked for a little binge-watching!

I just watched Season 1 Episode 1 "The Cage." When I search this, I find that some sources say that Season 1 Episode 1 is "The Man Trap." What do you think?

“The Cage” was the original unaired pilot that NBC rejected so the first episode that was actually aired was “The Man Trap”.

To confuse things even more, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” was the new pilot that replaced “The Cage” but it was the third episode that was actually aired!

And "The Man Trap" was the SIXTH episode filmed.

Wow, and I was disappointed when I learned the truth about Santa Clause. Or did I . . .?

Make sense since it was a Desilu studios production and they knew a thing or two about the money that could be made from reruns.

Why CBS thought that was the episode to open with is beyond me . . .

Than again, with the possible except of Voyager, most of the Star Trek series did not really get their legs under them until the end of the first season, or maybe even the 2nd season. TOS is no exception.

I believe ST:TOS originally aired on NBC, not CBS.
